If you were hoping for more of FBI agents Bill Tench and Holden Ford [1], we're about to give you some pretty bad news. On Oct. 24, Mindhunter's executive producer and co-showrunner David Fincher seemingly confirmed that the show is done for now [2]. Any hopes we had for a potential season three initially went out the window when the show's main cast was released from their contracts [3] back in January and Mindhunter was put on indefinite hold. For Fincher, a potential season three might not be worth the time, effort, and money needed to create the level of show audiences would expect.

"When I got done [with season two], I was pretty exhausted, and I said, 'I don't know if I have it in me right now to break season three.' Mindhunter was a lot for me [4]." Fincher said in an interview with Vulture. "For the viewership that it had, it was an expensive show . . . I honestly don't think we're going to be able to do it for less than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic about dollars have to qual eyeballs." While Fincher might not be optimistic, Netflix isn't fully closing the door on Mindhunter just yet. "Maybe in five years," a spokesperson for Netflix told Vulture.
