The third season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel features more live music than ever, including one by Sterling K. Brown, who really does sing at one point in his role as Reggie, Shy Baldwin's tough tour manager. The This Is Us star is just one of several new additions to the cast for the third season, and although Broadway actor Darius de Haas dubs the singing voice of singer Shy Baldwin (played by Leroy McClain), Brown does his own singing.

In the third season, we only get to hear Brown sing one time: in episode three, he takes the mic himself for a cover of Louis Jordan's "Is You or Is You Ain't My Baby?" The original song was first recorded in 1943, so it's nearly 20 years old by the time Reggie sings it. The song's lyrics are familiar territory: the crooning singer talking about the girl he loves and wondering if she still feels the same way about him. There's a bit of tension between Shy and Reggie throughout the season, and this song certainly adds fuel for viewers to speculate over!

Although Brown is best known for his decidedly nonmusical work on This Is Us, he's no stranger to singing for a role — but we never actually got to hear it before! Brown told Yahoo that he originally had a song in Frozen 2, in which he plays Lt. Destin Mattias, an officer from Arendelle who's spent decades trapped in an enchanted forest. But, as so often happens in movie development, the song eventually got cut.

"I do not sing in the film, but I had to sing for the audition because there was a song that I was going to sing that ultimately they felt didn't fit in with the story," he explained. "Originally, he was in the forest by himself, isolated, and only had himself to talk to. So I would have scenes where I talk to myself and the whole thing, and then someone like Anna would chime in and I'd be like, 'I didn't say that. Did I say that?' It was interesting interplay, because I'd never heard another voice. So that went away and the song had to be re-conceived."

We're excited that Brown did get a chance to sing for us on Mrs. Maisel, and we're hoping this isn't the last we've seen of his character! The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is currently streaming its third season on Amazon Prime.
