10 Schitt's Creek Scenes That Prove Johnny Is the Most Underrated Rose

17/11/2020 - 11:35 PM

Real talk: there would be no Schitt's Creek [1] without Johnny Rose. I mean that in every sense. Not only did Eugene Levy cocreate the show, but his character of Johnny also keeps the whole family unit moving [2]. As the patriarch of the Rose family, he keeps them all in line in Schitt's Creek [3] and does absolutely everything he needs to to support them. Though the humour in his role is generally more understated (and often underrated), it's ever present, making so many of his scenes so pivotal to the story. As always, it's tricky to pick out any Schitt's Creek character's best scenes [4], but here are 10 of my favourite Johnny scenes.

Johnny Gets Dripped On (Season 1, Episode 2)

While everyone else in the Rose family has a very distinct and memorable style, Johnny's is pretty straight-laced and basic. All suits all the time. However, this seen gives us Johnny in a nightgown, which I won't soon get over.

Johnny Explains a Write-Off (Season 2, Episode 6)

Not everyone understands how to do their taxes, and that's OK. When David just wants to write everything off, Johnny gets extremely flustered trying to explain to him that you can't just write things off and expect them to be free. And now I'd like to thank Johnny for helping me understand my own tax write-offs.

Johnny Tells Off His Friends (Season 2, Episode 13)

It doesn't take long for Johnny to come around on Schitt's Creek [6]. The man who once couldn't wait to get out of this town was quick to defend it when his "friends" made fun. I love that just by season two, Johnny had already shown so much growth.

Johnny Interrupts David (Season 3, Episode 1)

What's worse than your parents catching your date walking out after a hookup? Your dad referring to it as "afternoon delight." And while Johnny's not wrong about the term, the whole moment is filled with hilarious awkwardness, and it's just so good.

Johnny Has a Hangover (Season 3, Episode 1)

Johnny is largely cool, calm, and collected, so seeing him when he's not that is always fun. Seeing him with a hangover is even better. I can definitely relate to sitting in a cafe with sunglasses on demanding toast to make me feel better. I get it, Johnny, I do.

Johnny Helps at the Cafe (Season 3, Episode 2)

This whole part where Johnny pitches in at the cafe is so underrated. He's definitely not used to real manual labour, so you can see his annoyance with helping out, but he does it! You know what? Because Johnny is a good man.

Johnny and Moira Buy a Car (Season 3, Episode 3)

Yes, Moira really shines in this scene, however, Johnny's support for her wacky character and near awe at the performance is honestly so beautiful. What I love about Johnny throughout the whole series is his unending love and pride in his family, even with all their quirks.

Johnny Talks Customer Service (Season 4, Episode 11)

Johnny is the master of passive aggression. Rather than yell about not getting the products for the motel in time, he just calmly picks and picks. Also how many times does he say "rollout" in this scene?

Johnny Talks to Patrick (Season 6, Episode 7)

How adorably awkward is the conversation Johnny has with Patrick before they get married? These two have known each other for years, but Johnny waited until just before the wedding to have a real talk with him. Like I said, I love how deeply Johnny loves his family, and I also love the budding relationship between Johnny and Patrick as he's welcomed into the family.

A Schitt's Creek Wedding (Season 6, Episode 14)

The entire Schitt's Creek [7] might just be the best scene in the entire series. Everyone is perfect. I love how proud Johnny looks here to walk Stevie down the aisle and lock eyes with Patrick as he awaits his future husband. It's just all so good.
