Jurassic World Short Film Battle at Big Rock

The Jurassic World Creators Just Dropped a Terrifying Surprise Jurassic World Short Film

In the early hours of Monday morning, a brand new short film entered the Jurassic World cannon, giving us an insight into the state of the world after dinosaurs escaped Isla Nublar in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Battle at Big Rock is directed by Colin Trevorrow himself (he has directed the previous films in the Jurassic World franchise), and was written by Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael, so this isn't just some small budget teaser — it's the real deal.

Set one year after the last Jurassic World film, the short film begins with audio news clips reporting on dinosaur sightings. Battle at Big Rock is appropriately named, since it's set in Big Rock National Park, in a dystopian world where prehistoric creatures are running free in the real world. The story follows a family of five, whose peaceful dinnertime is interrupted by the arrival on massive dinosaurs.

The scene that ensues, with three giant dinosaurs fighting (before turning on the family), is the stuff of nightmares. Or dreams, if you're the kind of person who would love nothing more than trying to coexist with terrifying carnivores. We don't want to spoil anything (and strongly suggest you watch the short film above) but we will state the obvious: the young girl who casually saves her family from a T.rex by wielding a crossbow is a straight up badass. Not surprisingly, the short film also has some great post-credit scenes, and if Twitter is anything to go by, some people love them even more than the big budget film itself.

The next Jurassic World film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is set for release on June 11, 2021, so we hope you enjoy this taster before you settle in for a long wait.
