Kelly Clarkson Pours Her Soul Into a Cover of Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain"

Covering an Adele song is no mean feat, but Kelly Clarkson is always up for the challenge. On the 7 Feb. episode of her talk show [1], the host sang Adele's 2011 hit "Set Fire to the Rain" — a timely choice given the pop star's recent Grammy win [2]. With backup instrumentals provided by My Band Y'all, Clarkson brought her own flair to the emotional track, weaving a few unexpected high notes into the chorus and giving the performance her all from start to finish.

Clarkson is quite well-versed in Adele's body of work. Since launching "The Kelly Clarkson Show" in 2019, she's covered both "Rumour Has It" and "Rolling in the Deep" for her beloved "Kellyoke" segment [3], and also sang "Someone Like You" during a Stronger Tour concert in 2012. Many fans are now itching for Adele to guest star on Clarkson's new "Songs and Stories" segment for a few duets and deep chats, just as Pink did this week [4]. Can you even imagine how incredible a Clarkson x Adele "Easy on Me" performance would be?

Clarkson's vocal versatility never ceases to amaze us. Throughout her career, the "American Idol" alum [5] has covered songs from just about every musical genre, including but certainly not limited to Rihanna [6]'s "Umbrella," Bobby Pickett's "Monster Mash," Selena's "Dreaming of You," and Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice." Enjoy her latest stirring performance above.
