The Biggest "Killing Eve" Questions We Need Answered in Series 4

We got our last dose of "Killing Eve" characters Villanelle and Eve in the early weeks of lockdown, and two years later, they're finally back on our screens. It's time to check back in with our favourite ruthless killers and unlikely #couplegoals, and since BBC has already announced that this will be the final series, there's a lot to be wrapped up. Amongst everything we're hoping for in "Killing Eve" series four, we still have plenty of questions left from the last series — particularly that cliffhanger finale.

Can Villanelle and Eve Stay Away From Each Other?

During the final moments of series three, Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and Eve (Sandra Oh) decided that they're better apart and began walking away from one another. However, right before the camera cut off, they turned to face each other, leading viewers to question whether they were about to take a final look before committing to a life apart.

Very quickly into the first episode of series four, we realise that Eve and Villanelle did in fact manage to stay apart. Eve ends up working for a private security company and hunting the Twelve, while Villanelle decides to renounce her evil ways and become baptised. The show's writers then decided to twist the knife a little deeper, as we discover that Eve is now involved with her colleague Yusuf (Robert Gilbert). But not to fear, for sweet little "Nell" is also having quite the chemistry with the vicar's daughter, May (Zindzi Hudson), so we're looking forward to finding out more about how those relationships develop.

Will Carolyn Face Consequences For Her Actions?

One of the most shocking deaths from the last series was when Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) shot Paul (Steve Pemberton) in the head. The whole gang had converged on Paul's apartment, recognising him to be in charge of the Twelve. Once there, Carolyn turned her gun on Konstantin (Kim Bodnia) and confronted him as the last person to see Kenny (Sean Delaney) alive. Konstantin claimed that he was simply trying to help Kenny, who knew too much about the Twelve, and Kenny backed up until he fell off the roof. It seemed like a rather convenient story, and honestly we didn't expect Carolyn to believe it either.

Maybe she believed him, maybe she still holds a spark for her old flame, or maybe she had another motive, but this much is true: Carolyn didn't kill Konstantin. Instead, she turned her gun on Paul and shot him. Everyone was rightly infuriated by this, including viewers, because Paul could've shared so much about the Twelve. Carolyn's motives have long been questionable, and it's always been difficult to discern whose side she's on — if any at all. She simultaneously pushes Eve and others to discover more about the Twelve, yet also holds them back if they get too close to the truth.

We've wondered what's next for Carolyn after murdering Paul, and in series four we find our answer. She was demoted to cultural attaché, which Hugo (Edward Bluemel) clarifies to be code for being kicked out on your arse. Yep, Hugo is back, and he's seemingly the one that took over for Carolyn. Hugo knows exactly what Carolyn did, so the only question is whether the Twelve know and will seek their own justice.

What's Next For Hélène?

It's likely that Hélène (Camille Cottin) won't be too pleased following the antics of the series three finale. She lost Rhian (Alexandra Roach), Dasha (Harriet Walter), and Paul all in the space of one episode. Assassins aren't so simple to replace, and neither are handlers. We're waiting to see how Hélène will react and who she'll take her vengeance out on. She's far too classy a lady to do it herself, but perhaps her next assassins will begin with a Villanelle or Carolyn assignment.

This question wasn't really answered in the first episode, as we only got one snatched glance at Hélène in a car with her newest recruit. However, given that she's in London, we expect that this assassin will soon be receiving some very interesting instructions.

Was This the Last We'll See of Niko?

It's easy to feel sorry for Niko (Owen McDonnell), and somehow even easier to feel irritated by him. Eve's husband had a rough run throughout the show and most recently was stabbed in the neck with a pitchfork by Dasha. Niko managed to survive the brutal attack, and Eve went to visit him in hospital. As expected, she was promptly told to leave.

While it's likely that Niko means this and that Eve will listen, having seen the damage she has inflicted on the poor man, we can't help but wonder if a return could one day be on the cards. And would this further impact Villanelle and Eve's already-strained and confusing relationship?

Was Konstantin Kenny's Father?

When confronted by the barrel of Carolyn's gun, Konstantin claimed that he didn't kill Kenny and that the poor lad asked if Konstantin was his father. Given that Kenny is dead, this is likely to be a question that won't be answered. We can't help wondering if Kenny really could be his son, and in that case, did Konstantin kill his own son? We demand justice for Kenny, or at least the truth, and we're hoping Carolyn will deliver it as series four continues.

Is Little Irina Doing Alright?

Konstantin's adorable daughter spent a little too much time with Villanelle. Irina (Yuli Lagodinsky) ultimately followed in her mentor's footsteps and ran over her stepdad several times in his car. Little Irina is paying for her crime, unlike just about every killer in this show, and Konstantin had plans to run away with her. He claimed the mysterious Russian doll was the key to that, but many theorise that it's actually another tool. In series four, we discover that Konstantin is currently in Russia, running for mayor, and we've yet to discover if Irina is with him.

By "Killing Eve" standards, the start of series four was rather tame and focused a lot on placing characters in the new context. We have no doubt though that the frenzy will soon begin again, and we've come to understand that no character is safe. Will our two unlikely heroines (if we can even call them that) make it to the end of this show? We've got plenty more episodes to find out.

Stay tuned for more updates as the series unfolds.
