Every Song Klaus Quotes to His Cult on The Umbrella Academy

Let's Talk About Klaus Literally Preaching Song Lyrics to His Cult on The Umbrella Academy

Watch out! This post contains spoilers.

There's a lot to love about The Umbrella Academy's second instalment: the incredible cast, the amazing soundtrack, the plot twists, the time-travelling. But one of the best parts of the season is, undoubtedly, Klaus (Robert Sheehan) and his cult — or, as he puts it, his "alternative spiritual community." The counterculture coterie, named Destiny's Children, is certainly alternative, considering the ideologies that Klaus preaches are just song lyrics. And since Klaus founded his sect in 1963 after arriving from the future, his followers have no idea that his words of wisdom — and the cult's name — are plagiarized from '70s and '90s music artists. Although there are only a few nods to the subsequent singers, Klaus's "teachings" add a fresh, comedic twist that deserves a shout-out. Keep reading to see every song that Klaus quotes to his devotees!

In episode two ("The Frannkel Footage"), Klaus lands himself in jail where he meets one of his followers named Keechie. When the excited fan asks Klaus for some words of wisdom, the so-called prophet replies, "Don't go chasing waterfalls stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to."

After getting fed up with the pressures of being a leader, Klaus tries to tell his admirers that he's a fraud in episode six ("A Light Supper"). But they're still enamoured with him and Keechie even quotes one of Klaus's "scriptures," saying, "As long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive."

Klaus breaks away from his cult for good in episode seven ("Öga For Öga"), but before he leaves, Keechie asks him to share some enlightening final words. "Oh, my God, we're back again," Klaus says. "Brothers, sisters, everybody sing! We're gonna bring you the flavour. We're gonna show you how."
