Ready For the Lizzie McGuire Revival? Here's What the Original Cast Is Doing Now

13/09/2019 - 11:00 AM

It's official: Lizzie McGuire [1] is coming back! At the D23 Expo, Disney announced that a revival of the classic 2000s teen sitcom is on its way [2] for streaming service Disney+ [3], with star Hilary Duff returning as Lizzie [4]. But what about the rest of the cast? The announcement didn't include any information on which, if any, actors from the original series will reprise their roles alongside Duff. As it turns out, it might be a little tricky to get some of them to return, since several of them have actually left acting altogether. So if they're not acting, what's the original cast up to these days? We've found out what we can about the main cast's post-Lizzie careers — keep reading and see whose career has turned out to be the most surprising!

Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire

Hilary Duff Now

Hilary Duff [5]'s career definitely made the biggest splash out of all her colleagues. During her Lizzie McGuire and initial post-Disney years, she carved out a niche as a girl-next-door in teen roles such as Agent Cody Banks, Cheaper by the Dozen, and A Cinderella Story. Duff also launched a recording career, with five studio albums and four tours.

Between 2007 and 2014, Duff's career was more low-key, with smaller roles on TV shows and in low profile movies. During this time, she also married hockey player Mike Comrie: they married in 2010, had their son, Luca, in 2012, and separated in 2014 before a 2015 divorce. She went on to date songwriter and producer Matthew Koma beginning in 2017; they had their daughter in 2018 and became engaged in May 2019.

In 2015, Duff kicked off her next career-defining role as Kelsey Peters on TVLand's original comedy Younger, starring opposite Sutton Foster. She continues to play the role in the show's currently airing sixth season, and will likely return for season seven as well.

Lalaine as Miranda Sanchez

For the most part, Lalaine (also known by her full name, Lalaine Vergara-Paras) has kept a much lower profile since wrapping her role as Lizzie's best friend Miranda. She released music with Warner Bros. Records following the end of Lizzie McGuire, but it received limited releases and flopped. She also popped up in a handful of teen movies, most notably Easy A, in the late 00s.

Aside from that, her career has been pretty quiet for the last decade, and her Instagram gives little information about what she's up to these days — until recently, when her bio changed to a mysterious "Re-BOOT(s)". Is this a hint that Miranda might be part of the Lizzie McGuire reboot? Only time will tell!

Adam Lamberg as David "Gordo" Gordon

Gordo was the sweet friend-turned-crush of all our dreams on Lizzie McGuire, but he's left the entertainment industry altogether at this point. For a few years post-Disney, he continued to act, appearing in the comedies When Do We Eat? and Beautiful Loser. That would prove to be the end of his acting career, however, and Lamberg pretty much disappeared from public view altogether.

In recent years, thanks to internet sleuths, his whereabouts are better known. He's listed as the development officer [6] for the Irish Arts Centre in New York City. And in 2015, when some of his former castmates had a mini-reunion, their social media got in on the "Where's Gordo?" joke [7].

Jake Thomas as Matt McGuire

Jake Thomas Now

Jake Thomas has grown up quite a bit since his days of playing Lizzie's annoying little brother. He continued to stay in the Disney family for a while, appearing on the That's So Raven spinoff Cory in the House from 2007 to 2008. Since growing older, however, his career has slowed down a bit, with mostly small guest roles on TV shows. His most recent role was the comedy Baja.

Hallie Todd as Jo McGuire

Hallie Todd Now

Hallie Todd already was a fan favourite before Lizzie McGuire, thanks to her role as Data's daughter Lal on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Her post-Lizzie career has been considerably quieter, though, with just a few small movie and TV roles. She's also the author of two books: Being Young Actors and Parenting the Young Actor.

Robert Carradine as Sam McGuire

Robert Carradine Now

Robert Carradine comes from a large family of Hollywood actors, and as such, he began acting in his teens, with his first appearance coming on the Western TV series Bonanza. His breakout performance came in the 1978 drama Coming Home, but his most memorable role was in 1984's Revenge of the Nerds as leader of the nerds Lewis Skolnick.

His career has slowed down a bit in recent years, but he continues to work both as an actor and as a producer. He was involved in a car crash in 2015 but made a full recovery.

Clayton Snyder as Ethan Craft

Clayton Snyder Now

As dim-bulb popular kid Ethan, Clayton Snyder was the stuff of early-'00s tweenage dreams. Although he's had a pretty lengthy résumé since then, it's mostly been in lower-profile projects. He disappeared from acting for over a decade after 2003's The Lizzie McGuire Movie, and when he reappeared, it was in a series of small, quirky projects, from short films to little-known webseries. His most recent project is the indie film Ham on Rye, which debuted in February 2019 at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival to positive reviews.

Ashlie Brillault as Kate Sanders

We loved to hate her as Kate, the bullying mean girl with an occasional goodhearted streak, but her role as Kate turned out to be Brillault's first and last acting gig. Since then, she's completely left show business and, according to LinkedIn [8], is a criminal defence attorney in California.
