Traps and Two-Faced Mugs: We Look Back on Some of Toby's Funniest Quotes From Love Island 2021

23/08/2021 - 10:40 AM

Toby Aromolaran has captured the nation's heart during his time on Love Island. Over the past few weeks, the 22-year-old has gone from being dubbed the dating show's chaotic villain [1] to winning over the public with his adorable personality. Who would have thought at the beginning of the series that we'd now be rooting for him to win the £50,000 cash prize [2] alongside Chloe Burrows?

The football player has had the epitome of a cheesy reality TV "journey", as we've witnessed him have the strongest character arc in the show's history. Earlier in the series, we were gifted an incredibly indecisive lad who had his head turned by multiple women in the villa, having coupled up with Kaz [3], Chloe, Abi, and Mary, before going back to Chloe. We were also blessed with hearing him insisting you can "manifest" your shoe size (we'll get to that one later on).

Now he's calling Chloe "The One", and it appears as if the two of them are incredibly well-suited. Toby is now being hailed as the "voice of reason" and has been imparting solid life and dating advice to his fellow Islanders. Who can forget that surprisingly mature conversation he had after Jake blew up in the villa?

His time on the show wouldn't be complete without a slew of hilarious, sometimes heartfelt, moments where he has delivered some fabulous phrases. Twitter users have also been loving Toby and regularly share reactions to his amusing quips online. Of course, we've decided to round up all of his best bits.

"I have a theory that foot size is down to mental state."

Toby left viewers in stitches and his fellow Islanders baffled when he made an unusual announcement on Love Island: Unseen Bits.

"I have a theory that foot size is down to mental state," Toby said, to bemused looks from the other Islanders. "When you were younger, if you wanted to be a size, you could dictate the size of your foot due to your thoughts."

Eager to know more, Kaz asked: "So you're saying you can manifest your shoe size, basically?"

Toby explained: "When I was younger, I'd be like, I want to be a size 10. And then I got to a size 10, in my head, I was like, I want to be a size nine. And then my feet just shrunk." We couldn't contain our laughter after the group fell back into silence.

"You’re gonna walk out on me and this baby?"

The Love Island baby challenge proved to be comedy gold, especially where Chloe and Toby were concerned, as the pair caused absolute chaos with their little one.

The Islanders awoke to the sound of wailing babies as part of a challenge that viewers have come to know and love, with each couple receiving a baby doll to take care of for the day.

While others were naturals at it, Chloe and Toby had a bumpy journey. When Chloe eventually decided it was time to get ready for the day, Toby was having none of it, and he delivered their son Marley to Chloe while she was in the dressing room.

"You're gonna walk out on me and this baby?!" Toby asked as Chloe declared the dressing room a "buggy-free zone".

"Give the baby positive vibes, he will be a positive baby."

The baby challenge was a gift that kept on giving, as Toby gave us a variety of memorable quotes during this episode.

Toby took to fatherhood incredibly quickly and often had hilarious pieces of advice to share with Chloe and the other Islanders. One quote we're not going to forget any time soon is: "Give the baby positive vibes, he will be a positive baby."

We're just thankful the couple didn't end up calling the baby Febreeze, which was originally suggested.

"And to finding out two-faced mugs."

Who can forget one of the most explosive recoupling ceremonies from the season that almost saw Chloe evicted from the villa?

After Toby decided to dump Chloe for Abigail Rawlings, her neck was on the chopping block alongside newbie Georgia Townend.

Chloe was eventually saved by Hugo Hammond, who gave a passionate speech where he threw Toby under the bus. Hugo blasted the 22-year-old for the way he switched from being romantically linked with Chloe to pursuing Abi.

Once Georgia was evicted from the villa, the Islanders came together to raise a toast to her, as Lucinda Strafford said: "Here's to Georgia — the biggest breath of fresh air in here!"

Toby added: "And to finding out two-faced mugs."

"You're just a girl follower."

Hugo's emotional speech, in which he chastised his fellow islander for mistreating Chloe, infuriated Toby.

After the toast, Hugo tried to smooth things out between the two of them. Things didn't go quite to plan, as Toby threw out an interesting insult as he continued to lick his wounds.

He told the PE teacher: "What that shows to me is that you're one of them guys that just follow girls. You don't care about boys; you just follow girls. You're just a girl-follower."

This quote is regularly quoted on Twitter and still has Love Island fans in hysterics — and can you blame them?

"I like that she’s understanding, because she understands."

When talking to the boys about whether to take things further with Kaz Kamwi while the pair were coupled up, Toby had some . . . interesting things to say.

"I like that she's understanding, because she understands," he said about his partner.

Romantic? No. Inspiring? Still no, but we think we know what he meant.

"Eyes on the prize, boys."

During a segment where the Islanders were asked what their favourite inspirational quote was, many came back with deep and meaningful answers.

But not Toby, of course, who said with a giggle: "Eyes on the prize, boys."

We can only assume that this is what his coach tells him when he's on the football pitch for Hashtag United.

"You look like a highlighter pack."

There have been a variety of amusing phrases that have come out of Toby's mouth during the series, and what makes them funny is the fact that he is often being serious when he says them.

One such moment is when Chloe came out in a fluoro orange dress, Millie in fluoro pink, and Faye in fluoro green. In an attempt to compliment the girls, he said: "You look like a highlighter pack."

Thankfully he's learnt more about how to compliment women since he uttered those words.

"I just want to grab her and . . . cuddle."

While this one isn't hilarious, it was too sweet to not include.

Even though Chloe and Toby's relationship had a rocky start, Toby has proven how much he likes her as the show's progressed. When talking with Jake about how strong his feelings were for her, he said something that had us weak at the knees.

"I just wanna grab her and . . ." he said before Jake cut him off.

Jake responded: "Rip her clothes off."

To which Toby said: "Nah I wanna grab her and cuddle."

Absolutely adorable.

"Traps are everywhere. Traps, traps, traps, traps, traps, traps."

This hilarious moment might be one you've forgotten, so let us refresh your memory.

During a time when Toby couldn't decide who he wanted to be with, Abi spoke to Toby about making coffees in the morning.

Although the moment seemed innocent enough, Toby didn't seem to think so, as he left Abi standing alone in the kitchen.

"Traps are everywhere . . . traps, traps, traps, traps, traps," he could be heard muttering to himself, before saying to the camera: "She's just setting up these little traps here and there, and me, I'm trying to dodge them, but I'm also falling into some of them. It's so hard."

"Who would have thought that I was a hopeless romance . . . romant . . ."

One particularly sweet moment was when Toby decided to make breakfast for Chloe, cutting up a melon into small pieces, so that it could form her initials, CB.

Later to the camera, he said: "Who would have thought that I was a hopeless romance . . . romant. Is it romant? Romant. Romance."

Err not quite, Toby, but A for effort.
