This Is Not Just a Christmas Advert, It’s an M&S Harry Styles Christmas Advert

'Tis the season of festive TV adverts, and the 2022 Marks and Spencer Christmas advert is a true celebration of kindness that will immediately make you feel like throwing a winter street party. And who better to sing about togetherness and positivity than the one and only Harry Styles? Ok, so it's not technically the star appearing in the ad himself, but his song, "Treat People with Kindness", is the soundtrack to the commercial and we can't think of a more fitting way to round off 2022.

Not only is M&S's music choice guaranteed to get you singing along, but the joy-filled campaign has an important message, too. Directed by Michael Gracey, who we can thank for "The Greatest Showman", the ad begins on a quiet cul-de-sac on Christmas morning as we see households opening their gifts. As this happens, they are all drawn to the street outside where real-life community groups can be found singing, dancing, and playing as a street party ensues.

The happy scene consists of nine community groups, including people from the Kearsley Youth Brass Band from Bolton, the Bengali Sanskriti dance troupe from Peterborough, and the Paddington Arts Club from London. Each of these local clubs will receive funding from M&S, who has partnered with Neighourly to donate £1 million to 1000 community groups and worthy causes across the country.

Its "Gifts that Give" campaign comes at a time when local groups need donations more than ever as demands rise, but the cost-of-living crisis has seen funding fall. Research by M&S also found that two thirds of families are determined to make the most of Christmas this year, despite financial constraints. As such, 30 percent of its gifting range is under £10. Styles has also donated the fee for the use of his song to Centrepoint, the charity for homeless young adults.

The M&S Christmas Gifting advert comes a few days after the M&S Food Christmas advert which sees the return of Dawn French as Fairy, this time reunited with her comedy partner Jennifer Saunders as Duckie. As the countdown begins for the big day, with a John Lewis Christmas tear-jerker due at any moment in between, we'll be spreading the M&S x Styles message loud and clear.
