Marvel Honours Chadwick Boseman With Black Panther Tribute: "He Wore the Crown With Dignity"

Celebrities and fans alike have been paying tribute to Chadwick Bosman [1] since his death was announced on Aug. 28. The 43-year-old actor died after a four-year battle with colon cancer [2], during which he gave some of his most brilliant performances [3] on the screen, including his iconic role as King T'Challa/Black Panther [4] in Black Panther [5], Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. In honour of his dedication to the character and his impact as the forceful spirit Marvel fans came to love, Marvel Studios aired a special tribute for the late actor highlighting his work on the Marvel Cinematic Universal and the legacy he's left behind.

The five-minute video features behind-the-scenes footage of Boseman's work in the MCU, along with previously filmed interviews with the cast and crew. Black Panther director Ryan Coogler [6] and Danai Gurira [7] are among the stars highlighted in the tribute who share their experiences working with Boseman, celebrating his work effort and undeniable talent. "It was Chadwick Boseman's performance in 42 that really made us take a second look," producer Nate Moore says, opening the video. "There's such an honour and dignity to the way that he played Jackie Robinson that we knew we needed for the character of T'Challa"

Kevin Feige and Boseman's MCU cast members — including Letitia Wright, Scarlett Johansson [9], Angela Bassett, Chris Evans, and more — add their testimony on what makes Boseman so special, a feeling that is clearly still felt after his death [10]. The video ends on a note from Boseman himself, reflecting on the worldwide impact of Black Panther. "It's fun to watch just what it means to people," he says. "At times, in my head, I would be like, 'Well what does this do for the world? Is it actually valuable in this climate?' I have to say, yes it actually is — not because it makes people escape. I think, when done right, it gives people hope. I've found that it means a lot."
