BAFTAs 2020: Micheal Ward Wins EE Rising Star Award

Micheal Ward Thanks Mother and Late Father in Emotional BAFTAs Acceptance Speech

BAFTAs 2020: Micheal Ward Wins EE Rising Star Award

Micheal Ward has taken out the EE Rising Star BAFTA, and honestly, it couldn't have gone to a more deserving person. The nomination follows a big year for Micheal — one which saw him star in Netflix's Top Boy TV series, and Blue Story.

Throughout his speech, Micheal's mother was visibly emotional, covering her face and wiping away tears as her son delivered a moving speech. "Wow, guys. Thank you so much for that reception," Micheal begun once the clapping started to ease. "I just want to say thank you, first of all, to God for making everything possible. Thank you to my dad, 'cause I know you're watching down on me, guiding and protecting me on this journey. I want to say thank you to my mum for believing in me, sacrificing everything for all of us to be here."

Micheal also had some words for anyone who has similar aspirations to him and dreams of being where he's standing. "To people who are watching at home, looking at me," he said. "Honestly, life didn't have to be this way, man. You have to see the opportunities and just see a vision."

Micheal follows previous Rising Star award winners Letitia Wright (2019), Daniel Kaluuya (2018), Tom Holland (2017), and John Boyega (2016). Congratulations to Micheal on his BAFTA win — we can't wait to see what he does next. Watch his full speech below.
