Miley Cyrus [1] has managed to transform a meditative Billie Eilish [2] single into a jazzy rock ballad. The singer, who has become known for giving good music covers [3], recently performed Eilish's "My Future" [4] for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. Whereas the original song is lulling in a beautiful way, Cyrus's rendition is charged with vibrating vocals and a punk attitude. She even punctuated the song's final line ("I'll see you in a couple years") with "but probably not" and her signature tongue-out expression.
In addition to the cover, Cyrus also performed her own recent singles "Midnight Sky" and "Slide Away," the former of which she sang in a glossy, '80s-inspired performance at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards [5] on Sunday. Though Eilish didn't make an appearance at the award show — neither physically nor virtually — she did recently offer fans a therapeutic Tiny Desk Concert [6] and also performed "My Future" at the Democratic National Convention [7].
