Miley Cyrus Celebrates 4 Years of "Malibu" With a Message About the Song and Liam Hemsworth

"But here I am, next to you, the sky's so blue, in Malibuuuuu."

Miley Cyrus's "Malibu" was the ultimate smooth summer song in 2017, and now, she's reflecting on how much the lyrics still mean to her today. On the four-year anniversary of the release on Tuesday, Cyrus shared a video of her recording the song at her home studio — yes, in Malibu — with a message about her ex, Liam Hemsworth.

"Today is the 4 year anniversary of Malibu. A song about a place and person that at the time I loved very much. That love was reciprocated beyond what I could describe here with freedom & escapism. I lost that home along with many others in 2018. Here is a video of me writing it in my home studio. 🌊 💕 🦢," she wrote.

The song and accompanying music video were a beautiful look at Cyrus's relationship with her now-ex and the life they shared on the beach. After first meeting on the set of The Last Song in 2009, Cyrus and Hemsworth dated on and off for 10 years. They got engaged in January 2016 and were married in December 2018 after their Malibu home was destroyed in the Woolsey wildfire earlier that year. Seven months after their wedding, the two confirmed they had separated. Despite their split, Cyrus has reflected on their relationship and their life together with so much love.
