Keira Knightley Is Taking Down the 1970s Miss World Pageant in Misbehaviour Trailer

You'd be forgiven for assuming a feminist dramedy centred around women's rights and racism would be based in 2019. But Keira Knightly [1]'s new film, Misbehaviour, is actually based on a true story that took place in London almost 50 years ago, in 1970.

In the trailer, we see Keira Knightley [2]'s character — based on real-life activist Sally Alexander — storm the 1970 Miss World pageant to fight for equality. Alexander, along with the Women's Liberation Movement, really did fight back against the pageant industry [3] when the annual competition was held at London's Royal Albert Hall.

The trailer is appropriately backed by Lesley Gore's song, "You Don't Own Me" and this, coupled with the film's title — Misbehaviour — is a pretty strong clue to exactly how this movie will unfold. This first look also sees Line of Duty's Keeley Hawes [4] step into the shoes of pageant executive Julia Morley, as well as Gugu Mbatha-Raw [5] (who recently appeared in Apple TV+ series, The Morning Show) as the pageant winner, Grenada's Jennifer Hosten.

The first footage from the film screened in Cannes earlier this year, and according to The Hollywood Reporter [6], it quickly sold across multiple territories. Misbehaviour is classified as a comedic drama, so we can expect serious topics being tackled with witty humour when it hits UK cinemas on March 13, 2020.
