Mo Gilligan's Best Moments Hosting the 2022 BRIT Awards

10 Top MO-ments From Our 2022 BRITs Host, Mo Gilligan

The BRITs has had a host of hosts over the years. From comedy duo Ant and Dec and pop icon Kylie Minogue to TV treasure Davina McCall and the quirky-humoured Russell Brand (back in his backcombing, tight trouser days) — each bringing their own unique flair to the legendary award ceremony. This year was the turn of brilliant British comedian Mo Gilligan, who stole the show from his predecessor, Jack Whitehall.

With so much talent in the room, the BRITs is a tricky gig to host (I mean, Adele was right there!). But it was clear from the start that Gilligan had got this; we loved to see him soaking up every darn minute of it. And the people of Twitter agree, with callouts such as "Legend!", "Great host", and "Breath of fresh air" for the new host.

The BAFTA Award-winning standup superstar came to fame through social media, where he posted observational-style comedy quips that put him in the spotlight. His hilarious talent was soon picked up by big TV bosses, which earned him his place as the host of several on-air shows and now, the role of host at the BRITs.

On the night, Gilligan rose to the challenge with seeming ease, bringing his natural charm and cheeky British humour to the stage. There wasn't a person he didn't root for, a moment he didn't celebrate, or a perfectly timed "OI OI!" he let go by. In short, we heart Mo, and here's 10 reasons why.

Having a laugh at how seriously the British public love Oasis, Gilligan donned a bucket hat, shades, and raincoat to become "Mo Gallagher" — complete with a sarky snippet of "Wonderwall".

The banter kept coming. Gilligan hyped 2022 being the first year of genderless awards, while reminding the lads that this meant they were up against Adele. He also got his cohost Maya Jama to relay the list of cocktails he'd put on at the BRIT Bar, which were mostly named after himself — we'll take a cool cosMOpolitan, a Pornstar MOtini, or a tall glass of Man-Like-MOjito any day.

In adorable style, Gilligan called out to the crowd which his auntie was sitting in, asking "someone to get her a double rum and coke and two Magnums". Patrice, we like your style.

It was clear to see, and hear, Gilligan's support for his fellow stage-dwellers, offering a "woop", "oi oi" for every performer on stage.

Proving he had the moves as well as the charm, he performed the highly meme'd Dua Lipa leg twist, from her song "Don't Start Now". Shake it, Gilligan.

Sitting down with the music, film, and TV legend, Gilligan asked if he hadn't any interest in extra hobbies, like gardening. He doesn't apparently, but he does make a mean bowl of cereal — Elba's Artisan Breakies coming soon, please?.

Gilligan offered the world an insight into his daily beauty regimen, revealing his skin-care must-haves — do we smell another celebrity beauty brand on the way?

Gilligan dubbed Ed Sheeran, you know the multi-award-winning artist, who performed that night, the nation's second favourite redhead, after Ron Weasley. Classic.

Gilligan jumped on Twitter at the end of the night to share his proud moment with us all, retweeting a post from 2011 where he said he would "...need to host the #MOBO's or #TheBritAwards' one day." A well-deserved dream come true.
