Start saving your money, because you're going to spend a lot of time at the cinema in 2023. The year will bring some very highly anticipated movies, including "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," [1] "Indiana Jones 5," and the seventh Mission: Impossible film. Phase 5 of the MCU [2] will officially begin with three new Marvel movies, and fans will finally get to see Halle Bailey as Ariel [3] in "The Little Mermaid," plus completely new stories from Pixar and Disney Animation.
The year promises exciting sequels like "John Wick: Chapter 4," but also some exciting stand-alone projects like Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" and Greta Gerwig's "Barbie." Timothée Chalamet [4] will be everywhere, including in his Willy Wonka prequel, "Wonka." Jennifer Lopez [5] will also return to the rom-com genre, and Chris Pratt and the Guardians of the Galaxy will have their first stand-alone film since 2017. DC fans will also have lots to enjoy between "Aquaman 2" and "Shazam! 2." And if there could already be a frontrunner for the 2024 Oscars, it would probably be Martin Scorsese [6]'s "Killers of the Flower Moon."

"House Party," [16] a remake of the 1990s film of the same name, is heading to theatres this January. Its packed with cameos from stars like Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, Tinashe, Lena Waithe, and Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis.

The brand new horror movie "M3gan" is about a robot doll who promises to be the perfect toy best friend. But her tech goes wrong and she wreaks havoc on her owners.

"Shotgun Wedding"
Jennifer Lopez [17] stars in another marital-based rom-com: "Shotgun Wedding." [18] The cast also includes Josh Duhamel [19] and Jennifer Coolidge.

"Magic Mike's Last Dance"
Magic Mike is back for one last ride in "Magic Mike's Last Dance," [20] the third film in the series. Channing Tatum [21] returns as the titular stripper, this time dancing through Miami. Salma Hayek [22] also appears in the film.

"Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania"
"Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" [26] kicks off Marvel's Phase 5 [27] with the return of Paul Rudd [28] and Evangeline Lilly [29] as the titular tiny heroes. When the team accidentally opens up the quantum realm, they end up facing off with Jonathan Majors's Kang the Conqueror, who'll turn into the MCU's next major villain. Fans met a version of the character in the first season of "Loki."

"Sharper"
"Sharper" is described as a "comedy thriller" set in New York City. The cast includes Sebastian Stan, Julianne Moore, and John Lithgow. The movie will hit Apple TV+ this winter.

"Scream 6"
"Scream 6" [32] will see the return of Ghostface once again. The new horror instalment has a cast that includes Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Hayden Panettiere [33], Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera [34], and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

"Shazam! Fury of the Gods"
"Shazam! Fury of the Gods," [35] the sequel to 2019's "Shazam!," was supposed to come out in 2022, but got pushed back a few months. The new movie promises to be just as funny and action-packed as the original, with Zachary Levi as the title character.

The fourth John Wick film finds Keanu Reeves [36] once again returning as the deadly assassin. Joining him this time are Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, and Rina Sawayama.

"Evil Dead Rise" is the fifth movie in the Evil Dead franchise. The horror film stars Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are finally making their big-screen return in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3." [40] Director James Gunn wraps up the trilogy with another adventure for Star Lord, Groot, Rocket, Gamora, Drax, Mantis, and Kraglin — along with Cosmo the Space Dog. Plus there's the issue of what the memory-less Gamora is up to.

"The Little Mermaid" [42] is the next Disney film to get the live-action treatment. Halle Bailey stars as Ariel in the reimagining, which also features four new songs.

"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts"
"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" is the seventh Transformers film, but it's actually set in Brooklyn in 1994. The film follows Optimus Prime as he navigates a battle between the Maximals, the Predacons, and the Terrorcons. The human cast includes Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, and Tobe Nwigwe. The voice cast for the Transformers includes Pete Davidson and Michelle Yeoh.

"Elemental"
Pixar's newest movie, "Elemental," [43] follows Ember, a girl made of fire living in Element City, where fire people are on the outs. She falls for Wade, a boy made of water, and their chemical reaction will have major consequences.

Despite the controversies around lead actor Ezra Miller [44], DC is still going forward with "The Flash." [45] Ben Affleck [46] and Michael Keaton are both going to appear as Batman in the movie.

"Indiana Jones 5"
"Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" [47] features the return of Harrison Ford [48] to one of his most iconic roles. Joining him in the movie is Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Indy's goddaughter and accomplice on his thrilling adventures. The new movie is directed by James Mangold.

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse"
"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" [49] is the long-awaited sequel to the Oscar-winning film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." Technically the movie isn't set in the MCU, but it features the return of iconic Marvel characters like Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Peter B. Parker. It'll also feature Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara and Issa Rae as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman.

"Mission Impossible 7"
"Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One" is the seventh film in the Mission Impossible franchise. Tom Cruise [50] is, of course, back at Ethan Hunt, doing all kinds of death-defying stunts. Some of the other cast from 2018's "Mission: Impossible — Fallout" returns, including Rebecca Ferguson and Vanessa Kirby, and Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff join the sprawling ensemble. The eighth film, "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two," will follow in 2024.

"Barbie"
Greta Gerwig's long-awaited "Barbie" film [54] is almost here. Margot Robbie stars as Barbie with Ryan Gosling [55] as her boyfriend Ken, and the film reportedly features an army of Barbies and Kens played by a lot of our favourite actors. Plot details are slim, but we can't wait.

"The Marvels"
July's "The Marvels" [56] teams up Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani [57]'s Kamala Khan, and Teyonah Parris's Minica Rambeau in a jam-packed adventure. The sequel to 2019's "Captain Marvel" also features Samuel L. Jackson [58] as Nick Fury and Zawe Ashton as a villain.

"Haunted Mansion"
Disney's new "Haunted Mansion" [59] is the second adaptation of the theme park ride of the same name. The all-star cast includes Rosario Dawson [60], LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson [61], Tiffany Haddish, Winona Ryder [62], Dan Levy [63], Jared Leto [64], Danny DeVito, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

"Blue Beetle"
"Blue Beetle" is the DC Comics movie you probably know the least about. It stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, aka the Blue Beetle. He gains superpowers when an alien Blue Beetle scarab attaches to him, giving him a powerful exoskeleton. The movie also stars Bruna Marquezine as Penny, his love interest. The ensemble includes George Lopez, Susan Sarandon, and Harvey Guillén.

"Kraven the Hunter"
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars in "Kraven the Hunter" as the titular Spider-Man villain. Ariana DeBose plays his love interest Calypso and Fred Hechinger plays his half-brother. Christopher Abbott and Alessandro Nivola will play Kraven's adversaries, and Russell Crowe [65] will also appear in the film.

"Saw 10"
The Saw franchise [66] is continuing with a 10th film called "Saw X." Tobin Bell returns as Jigsaw, and the cast includes Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, and Michael Beach.

"Dune: Part II" [67] will continue the story of 2021's "Dune." Timothée Chalamet [68] and Zendaya [69] return to continue their story on Arrakis, joined by Florence Pugh and Austin Butler.

"The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes"
"The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" [70] is the upcoming Hunger Games prequel film about President Snow as a young man. Rachel Zegler [71] stars as Lucy Gray Baird, with Tom Blyth playing Snow. The cast also includes Hunter Schafer, Viola Davis, and Peter Dinklage.

"Wish"
Disney's newest animated feature is "Wish," and it's inspired by the wishing star that plays such a prominent role in so many previous films. In "Wish," Oscar winner Ariana DeBose voices Asha, a 17-year-old who teams up with a star to try to save her people in the Kingdom of Wishes. The film features original music composed by Julia Michaels.

"Wonka"
Timothée Chalamet's "Wonka" movie [72] — about the origins of candymaker Willy Wonka — is one of the most-buzzed-about movies of the next year. The cast of the movie musical includes Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Colman, and Natasha Rothwell.

"Aquaman 2"
"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" [73] will see Jason Momoa [74] return as our favourite aquatic hero. Ben Affleck [75] will return as Batman in the film.

"Peter Pan & Wendy" is a Disney+ exclusive live-action Peter Pan movie. The cast includes Jude Law [76] as Captain Hook and Yara Shahidi [77] as Tinker Bell.

"Killers of the Flower Moon"
Martin Scorsese [78]'s "Killers of the Flower Moon" is set to premiere on Apple TV+ next year. The film is based on the true story of the mysterious murders of members of the Osage tribe in the 1920s, which sparked a major FBI investigation. The cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio [79], Brendan Fraser, and Robert De Niro [80].

"Argylle"
"Argylle" is a spy thriller starring Henry Cavill as the titular agent. The cast includes Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson [81].

"Red One"
"Red One" unites Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans for a Christmas action-adventure film. The extended cast includes Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Liu [82], Mary Elizabeth Ellis, J. K. Simmons, Nick Kroll, and "Game of Thrones"'s Kristofer Hivju. The film will stream on Prime Video in time for the holidays.
