The nominations for the 2023 MTV VMAs have been announced. Taylor Swift [1] leads the bunch with a total of eight nominations, including seven nods for her song "Anti-Hero" from "Midnights," as well as a nomination for artist of the year. SZA [2] has the second most nominations with a total of six, followed by Olivia Rodrigo [3], Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Sam Smith, and Miley Cyrus [4], who all trail behind with five each.
The show, which will air on Sept. 12, has also honoured a record-setting 35 first-time nominees, including GloRilla [5], Boygenius, Reneé Rapp, and Ice Spice. An Afrobeats category has also been added for the first time. Additional nominees include Shakira [6], Dua Lipa, Pink, Dove Cameron, Kendrick Lamar, Maluma, and Beyoncé, who netted a nomination for artist of the year.
