Music Mood Board: Dancing My Way Through Blackpink's Debut LP, The Album

03/10/2020 - 06:37 PM

Blackpink's debut LP, The Album [1], officially dropped on Oct. 2, giving my Spotify library a refreshing update. The eight-track collection features the fun musical stylings [2] of members Lisa, Jennie, Rosé, and Jisoo [3] as they croon about love, fame, and being total bosses. In true Blackpink fashion [4], each song utilises hard-hitting trap beats, electronic elements, and snappy verses that will have you dancing as soon as you hit "Play." Listen to every jam ahead!

“How You Like That”

I don't know if I've gone a week without listening to this song since it first dropped in June. From the beat to the catchy chorus, this is still one of my favourite tracks from the album.

“Ice Cream” (feat. Selena Gomez)

This is a fun little ditty that I'd 100 percent be dancing to in my car . . . if I actually had a car and if I went anywhere.

“Pretty Savage”

This might be my favourite song on the LP. I love the blend of production elements — notably the hard trap beat and the soft guitar chords — and the self-assertive demeanour. "All my diamonds, they yellow or bright white," Lisa raps. "Got 'em blind, can't find me, I'm outta sight / If you mad stay mad, we not alike." OK, girl!

“Bet You Wanna” (feat. Cardi B)

This is one of those collaborations you wouldn't expect but genuinely appreciate when it happens. Blackpink and Cardi B have seamless chemistry in this playful tune that's perfect for when you need a boost in confidence.

“Lovesick Girls”

I'm so close to planning a road trip with some friends just to blast this song while cruising.

“Crazy Over You”

This sounds like a song that would be on the soundtrack for a Bring It On [6] movie, which is to say that I really dig it.

“Love to Hate Me”

This one is going to be stuck in my head for days, and I'm OK with that.

“You Never Know”

One of the more pensive songs on The Album, this track wraps the LP with a different display of the group's vocal abilities and range.
