Music Mood Board: The Way Megan Thee Stallion Snaps on Her Debut LP, Good News

20/11/2020 - 11:55 PM

Megan Thee Stallion. That's it, that's the lede. As much as I wanted to come up with an uberwitty opening line, that's all I need to say because the Houston rapper's name speaks for itself. Megan has really been through it this year, but her debut album, Good News [1], is undeniable proof that she's a conqueror and that she's here to stay. The 17-track LP [2], which dropped on Nov. 20, is a resounding "f*ck you" to her haters, a declaration of power, and an emphatic expression of sexual desire. It gave me a much-needed boost of energy that's going to sustain me through the weekend and probably the rest of the year. While I genuinely enjoyed every song on the record, I managed to pick my favourite jams.

"Shots Fired"

Megan swiftly and effectively body-slams Tory Lanez in this track, and I love to see it.

"Circles"

When Megan says, "I ain't goin' back and forth with these lil' boys," it speaks to me.

"Cry Baby" feat. DaBaby

In the words of POPSUGAR Content Director Iyana Robertson, "Meg and DaBaby don't miss. Ever."

"Freaky Girls" feat. SZA

My skin looks significantly clearer after listening to Megan and SZA's team-up.

"Go Crazy" feat. Big Sean and 2 Chainz

The energy on this track is insane. I couldn't think of a better title.

"Savage Remix" feat. Beyoncé

Of course, this Houston Hottie collaboration made it on my list — what did you expect?

"Girls in the Hood"

If there's one song that always gets me up and dancing, it's Eazy-E's "Boyz-n-the-Hood." So I'm all for Megan sampling it on this track, and she definitely does it justice.
