Music Mood Board: Bass-Infused Bangers That Put Your Speakers to the Test

08/08/2020 - 07:51 PM

I'd like to take a moment to apologise to my eardrums because I've been relentlessly blasting bass-heavy songs on repeat. After listening to Beyoncé's The Lion King: The Gift deluxe album [1] last week (special shout-out to the extended edition of "Black Parade"), my musical appetite started craving anything with a bangin' beat. So I've been listening to a handful of new and old tracks with a thumping bass that keeps me energized and challenges the durability of my speakers. Ahead, listen to the hard-hitting tunes that were tacked on my music mood board this week.

"WAP" by Cardi B (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion couldn't team up and not give us a bass-filled banger [3]. And the surprise celebrity cameos in the music video [4] is just an added bonus.

"Gimme" by Banks

The only acceptable way of listening to this electropop bop is with the bass fully boosted — there's no other option, mkay?

"Đời" by Suboi

I don't remember how I first heard this song a few years ago, but I definitely recall putting my stank face on as soon as the bass came in. I still listen to this often and jam out as if I've never heard it before. The Vietnamese rapper's discography is filled with beat-heavy tracks (e.g. "N-Sao? [5]," "Bet On Me [6]," and "Trời Cho [7]"), but "Đời" is one of my top favourites.

"ROYL" by Chloe x Halle

If this song isn't featured in a coming of age TV show or movie, I'm throwing a fit! That's all.

"Messi" by Pierre (feat. Reese LAFLARE, Blaze Servin, and Coca Vango)

NBA player JaVale McGee produced a self-titled album under the moniker Pierre [8] in 2018, and I refuse to let anyone forget it. The 16-track LP is a slam dunk (sorry, I had to), and the song "Messi" is a hard-hitting ditty that's hyped me up for two years and counting.

"All For Us" by Labrinth and Zendaya

This was one of my most-played songs in 2019, and it's probably going to keep that top slot this year. Whenever it comes on my Spotify, I have to blast it at least three times in a row because the bass — along with Labrinth and Zendaya's mesmerising vocals [9] — is too addicting.

"How You Like That" by Blackpink

Blackpink's beats always slap, so I was hardly surprised by my instinctual capering when they dropped "How You Like That." In fact, I'm listening to it right now while doing a little shoulder jig. Just thought you should know that.

"Remember Me" by Dove Cameron (feat. BIA)

The bass is relatively understated on this track, so you might have to turn it up to get the full effect. But once you hear it, the song's ethereal emanation [10] is further amplified. Simply put: Cameron, BIA, and producers The Futuristics did that.
