29/04/2021 - 10:15 PM

If you have been stuck in a reading rut or are in desperate need of a good book to nurse your novel hangover, thrillers are where it's at. From domestic thrillers to murder mysteries [1], there's nothing more captivating than a real page-turner that'll leave you with goosebumps until the very last sentence. However, finding the *perfect* book you're in the mood for is way easier said than done. Which is why you've come to the right spot. Through extensive astrology research and browsing our own thriller-stocked library, [2] we've compiled the ultimate thriller/mystery roundup, curated just for you based on one simple characteristic: your zodiac sign.

You see, while searching for "books similar to The Undoing [3]" is one way to filter your catalogue of options, we think customizing a recommendation based on your zodiac sign's strengths [4], weakness, likes, and dislikes is just bit more appealing and personal! So what are you waiting for? Find your next chilling read ahead.

Aries (March 20-April 19): Untamed Shore by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Like an Aries, Viridiana hates being idle or anything that doesn't involve a punch of adrenaline. So when a group of rich American tourists offer her a dose of Hollywood glamour, she agrees without hesitation (as an Aries, you'll understand Viridiana's impulsive, YOLO attitude toward life). Determined and optimistic about her newfound adventure and friends, Viridiana wants to make the best of it. Of course, all of that shatters to smithereens when one of them turns up dead and she finds herself lying to cover everyone's tracks. Untamed Shore [5] by Silvia Moreno-Garcia quickly becomes a tangled mess of lies and murder; it's the ultimate thriller combo for an Aries reader.

Taurus (April 19-May 20): The Next Wife by Kaira Rouda

Characters with Taurus-like traits arguably make for the best thrillers. They can be stubborn and possessive but, on the flip side, also extremely patient, which makes them the perfect candidate for a domestic thriller with a twisted love triangle. Enter: The Next Wife [6] by Kaira Rouda. Just like you, Taurus, Kate hates sudden change, especially when it has to do with her family. After her life and marriage are invaded by someone younger, prettier, and more luxurious, she takes matter into her own hands. However, what she doesn't know is that "the other woman" has been five steps ahead of her this whole time, or so she thinks.

Gemini (May 20-June 21): A Woman of Intelligence by Karin Tanabe

In another twisted, feminist historical fiction from Karin Tanabe, A Woman of Intelligence [7] beautifully captures all the traits of a Gemini in its main character, Katharina Edgeworth. The daughter of an immigrant, Katharina feels unfilled in her marriage and life of domestic solitude, but when an opportunity comes along to be a fly on the wall for the FBI, she dives in head first. As her duties begin to pick up, including being the messenger of stolen government documents, Katharina will have to watch her back as to not let her coverup get the best of her, especially as those around her start to seep into trouble of their own. If you're a Gemini who hates boring routines, strives in social interactions, and lets curiosity get the best of you, move this historical thriller to the top of your TBR pile.

Cancer (June 21-July 22): Hostage by Clare Mackintosh

Bestselling author Clare Mackintosh has captured the pose yet sensitivity that is the Cancer sign in her most recent thriller. Mina is a flight attendant on a transcontinental flight to Australia. The only problem? An anonymous and very threatening stranger is coercing her to not reach their final destination. It's 20 hours until descent, and with every hour that goes by, someone's life is in danger, including her 5-year-old's back home in London. Hostage [8] entangles everything Cancers hate most — strangers and having to unveil personal information — while giving them a smart, persuasive main character they can see themselves in.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 22): The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict

Look up Leo in the dictionary, and you'll find a smirking Agatha Christie. Known for her bold, flashy, out-of-the-box storylines, she is a Leo through-and-through. Reimagining the events that took place in December 1926, Marie Benedict weaves an impeccable tale of what happened those 11 days when Agatha went missing in her thrilling novel The Mystery of Mrs. Christie [9]. She was gone for almost two weeks only to reappear unscathed and unbothered, but how? A Leo's best and worst traits and likes and dislikes come to life in this gripping book, making it the perfect pick.

Virgo (Aug. 22-Sept. 22): Meddling and Murder by Ovidia Yu

If you're a Virgo who loves nothing more than solving a puzzle, you'll get right along with Rosie "Aunty" Lee in Meddling and Murder [10] by Ovidia Yu. As the squire of one of Singapore's most sought-after restaurants, Aunty Lee thrives off pleasing others and sticking her nose into other people's problems. Beth Kwuan is in need of a maid after hers "suddenly disappears." When Aunty Lee offers one of hers, she thinks it's an act of kindness, but little does she know Aunty Lee is really examining Beth and her business under a magnifying glass. Virgos are known for being high-strung, analytical workers with upbeat, can-do attitudes, making them the ideal audience (and sidekick) for Aunty Lee.

Libra (Sept. 22-Oct. 23): The Widows of Malabar Hill by Sujata Massey

As a social-justice warrior, Libras will love Sujata Massey's The Widows of Malabar Hill [11], whose protagonist, Perveen Mistry, is one of the first-ever woman lawyers in India. Upon investigating the will of Omar Farid — who was one of the wealthiest Muslim business owners in their city with three wives — Perveen learns all three of his widows have forfeited their money to charities. Flabbergasted, Perveen digs deeper and discovers one of the widows didn't even sign her own name, but rather an "X." Perveen realises the only way she can get to the bottom of this is by visiting the Farid widows herself, which turns out to be a bigger obstacle than she imagined as the women live in absolute seclusion. Are they safe? How are they supporting their families if their late husband left them nothing and they can't leave their quarters? Saturated in female cooperation combined with a character trying to grapple with the injustices women face in a male-dominated society, Libras will be left with a jaw-dropping ending.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22): The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

Oh, Scorpio, you're a clever, resourceful, stubborn little sign, aren't you? While you're a loyal, to-the-death friend, you also hold your cards close and your secrets closer. Scorpios will feel right at home with the characters, who happen to be lifelong friends from college, in Lucy Foley's The Hunting Party [12]. Keeping with their annual New Year's tradition, a group of Oxford alumni gather in the Scottish Highlands for a secluded holiday. As NYE escalates, secrets that've been suppressed for a decade surface, and by the time the clock strikes midnight, one of them is dead. Fingers are being pointed, and the floodgates of lies and deceit have been opened. It's a Scorpio's worst nightmare; aren't you glad we recommended it?

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): The Last Flight by Julie Clark

The Last Flight [13] by Julie Clark is a must read for a Sagittarius, who is driven by fearlessness, individuality, and, most of all, idealism. Those three traits embody this thriller's two main characters, Eva and Claire, to a T. Told in dual timelines, Claire and Ever are each running sprinting as far as possible from their respected lives. When a run-in at the airport leads to the chance of never being located again, it seems like a foolproof plan. So they swap tickets; however, there's just one major problem. Neither woman knows what exactly the other is running from, and when Eva's past comes back to haunt Claire, she realises she might have made the worst decision possible. With a dash of Sagittarius-minded humour, this page-turner will have you boggled to the last sentence.

Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 20): Behind the Red Door by Megan Collins

Capricorns who can can speak to their sign's desire to be responsible and do the right thing will relate and have compassion toward Fern Douglas in Behind the Red Door [14] by Megan Collins. A 34-year-old woman named Astrid went missing near her hometown, and now Fern can't get her out of her head. Literally, she can't. This woman keeps popping up in her dreams (more like nightmares). Manic, Fern picks up Astrid's memoir about the previous kidnapping she had survived 20 years prior and quickly spirals down a dark web of evidence and possible leads. Prone to do the right, sensible thing, Fern begins to look more into Astrid's life in collaboration with the police. But what Fern finds is nowhere near what she was expecting. The knack to uncover the truth and not take "no" for an answer will pull every Capricorn reader right in.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): They All Fall Down by Rachel Howzell Hall

If there's two things Aquariuses hate, it's broken promises and isolation. Which is exactly why they will be rallying behind the aloof Miriam Macy, who is a promised a luxury holiday beachside in Mexico only to find out it was a scheme to get her and six other strangers alone on a deserted island. They say sins have a way of catching up with you, and these seven strangers are about to find out how as they each . . . fall . . . down. Rachel Howzell Hall will have Aquarius bookworms squirming with her suspenseful novel They All Fall Down [15].

Pisces (Feb. 18-March 20): White Ivy by Susie Yang

Pisces are great at leaving the past in the past; however, it's not always easy when your past continuously finds a way to haunt you. Ivy Lin is a little *too* familiar with that feeling in Susie Yang's captivating thriller, White Ivy [16]. After growing up as a thief and liar, Ivy wants nothing more than a restart, and when she bumps into a former crush's sister, she takes it as a sign. As things start to positively progress and Ivy can start to see a real future with the Speyer family, someone from her past comes back to ruin the whole thing. Pisces who, like Ivy, have found themselves placing their trust (and too much of it) in the wrong person, will relate to Ivy's situation.
