Netflix's The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo Dream Cast

Our Dream Cast For Netflix's "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo"

Netflix announced on 24 March that it's producing a movie version of the bestselling novel "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The book, released in 2017, became a major bestseller, thanks in part to amazing word of mouth on social media. No cast has been announced yet, so that got us thinking about who we'd love to see in the new film.

As readers know, in the book, Evelyn Hugo, now 79, asks magazine writer Monique Grant to help her write her life story. Monique is suspicious as to why a famous actress wants to work with her, but she agrees to listen. Evelyn recounts her life, from growing up with Cuban parents in the Bronx to moving to Hollywood as a teenager to finding fame and fortune — and love. Though she's well-known for having married seven men, Evelyn reveals the real love of her life is actually fellow actress Celia St. James.

Unfortunately, Netflix hasn't released any other details about the upcoming project, including any information about the "Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" cast (though Jenkins Reid did release a new book in 2022, "Carrie Soto Is Back"). Ahead, here are some of the ideas we have for Evelyn, Celia, Monique, and the rest of the cast.

Rita Moreno as Evelyn Hugo

Rita Moreno is an obvious choice to play the oldest Evelyn. Like Evelyn, Moreno is a Latina actress who's worked in Hollywood for years. The book dramatizes classic Hollywood, and Moreno actually lived and worked through that era. Moreno most recently appeared in "Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration" and 2021's "West Side Story." The legend would be a great anchor for the cast of "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo."

Ana de Armas as Evelyn Hugo

For younger Evelyn, Ana de Armas would be incredible. Like Evelyn, de Armas is Cuban. She's also played characters in classic Hollywood before; in September, she starred as Marilyn Monroe in "Blonde."

Saoirse Ronan as Celia St. James

Like the fictional Celia, Saoirse Ronan has been nominated for an Oscar multiple times. In the book, Celia and Evelyn meet for the first time when they star together in a version of "Little Women" — which, of course, Ronan actually did in 2019. We'd love to see Ronan play out the character's secret love on screen.

Raven Goodwin as Monique Grant

Raven Goodwin most recently starred in "Single Black Female," but the actress has spent years in Hollywood building up an impressive résumé. She also recently appeared in an episode of "Abbott Elementary." She would bring depth and humour to the role of Monique in "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo."

Harry Styles as Mick Riva

Mick Riva isn't just one of Evelyn's ex-husbands — he's also the dad of the gang in "Malibu Rising," another of Jenkins Reid's novels that's being adapted. Fans on social media have been clamouring for Harry Styles to play the fictional Mick, who is also a music superstar. Styles added two films to his acting CV in 2022 — "Don't Worry Darling" and "My Policeman" — and while his performances didn't get rave reviews, he could shine in "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" as a character who's a little closer to his real personality.

Hugh Skinner as Harry Cameron

You might recognise Hugh Skinner from "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again," where he played the younger version of Colin Firth's Harry. Or you might recognize him from "Fleabag," where he played one of the main character's ex-boyfriends, also named Harry. But Skinner is perfect to play Harry Cameron in "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo," not just because he often plays guys named Harry. Skinner brings a goofy, light quality to his work. And like Harry Cameron, Skinner is gay.

Glen Powell as John Braverman

Glen Powell has been building a name for himself as a heartthrob, and he would shine in this role as Celia's husband — and Harry's love — in "The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo." Powell most recently appeared in November's "Devotion" with Jonathan Majors and May's "Top Gun: Maverick."

Oscar Isaac as Don Adler

Don Adler is probably the most hated of Evelyn's husbands among readers. During their marriage, he's abusive to her, though they reconcile later in life and become friends. Isaac would be great at capturing the different phases of their relationship.

Louis Garrel as Max Girard

Max Girard is Evelyn's sixth husband, a French film director. We propose casting Louis Garrel as him in "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo." The actor previously appeared in 2019's "Little Women" as Friedrich Bhaer and nailed the whole artsy, intellectual angle.

Alexander Skarsgård as Rex North

Rex North is Evelyn's fourth husband (and one of her costars). He's aloof, and their marriage is purely for press. Alexander Skarsgård would shine in this role.

Alfred Enoch as James Grant

James Grant is Monique's dad, who died when she was young. Alfred Enoch, who shined in "How to Get Away With Murder," would bring both humour and dramatic chops to "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo."
