These Horror Movies Debuting in October Will Have You Sleeping With the Light On

While scary movies [1] can (and should) really be enjoyed year round, there's no better month to watch spooky flicks than October. Unsurprisingly, tons of new horror and thriller movies [2] are dropping throughout the month this year — both on streaming services and in theatres — with some highly-anticipated titles that were announced years ago. In addition to the long-awaited premieres of Last Night in Soho [3] and Halloween Kills [4], you can expect to see the debut of four new Blumhouse films dropping on Amazon Prime Video, as well as a whole bunch of new freaky flicks. Read ahead for everything you can look forward to seeing this October.

Titane

In this wild French horror flick, a woman becomes pregnant after having sex with a car, and yes, it's as wild and weird as it sounds.

Coming Home in the Dark

Based on a short story of the same name by Owen Marshall, this thriller follows a school teacher who's forced to confront his dark past after a pair of drifters abduct him and his family and force them on a nightmarish road trip.

Black as Night

Set 15 years after Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans, this Amazon Prime Video original follows a resourceful 15-year-old as she battles the vampires taking over the Big Easy with the help of her friends.

Bingo Hell

This Amazon Prime original revolves around a group of elderly friends who — while fighting off gentrification in their neighbourhood — discover that their beloved bingo hall is being overtaken by a far more insidious force.

There's Someone Inside Your House

Adapted from Stephanie Perkins's novel of the same name, this slasher flick stars Sydney Park as Makani, a teen from Hawaii. After moving to live with her grandmother in Nebraska, Makani discovers that her new classmates are being targeted and murdered one by one.

Madres

This Amazon Prime original is set in 1970s California and follows a Mexican-American couple who relocate to a migrant farming community. However, when the pregnant wife starts experiencing strange symptoms and violent visions, the couple is completely unprepared for what horrors await them.

The Manor

Amazon Prime's fourth original thriller for the month follows an elderly woman who is moved into a historic nursing home after she suffers a stroke. As she settles in, she begins to suspect her fellow patients are under the influence of a supernatural presence.

Lamb

Set in rural Iceland, this supernatural horror flick tells the story of a childless couple who discover a newborn sheep, and decide to raise it as their own. However, the couple doesn't realise that the lamb was born as the result of sinister forces that are determined to reclaim it.

Fever Dream

Based on Samanta Schweblin's novel of the same name, this trippy thriller follows a young woman who lies dying in a rural hospital clinic alongside her neighbour's son. However, a wild and terrifying conspiracy unravels throughout the film.

Halloween Kills

In this sequel to 2018's Halloween [7] (and the 12th instalment in the Halloween franchise) Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak return to reprise their roles as survivor Laurie, her daughter Karen, and her granddaughter Allyson. Nick Castle, Dylan Arnold, Kyle Richards, Charles Cyphers, and Nancy Stephens are also reprising roles from the 2018 and original 1978 films, so you can look forward to a big, bloody reunion.

Night Teeth

In this twisty vampire thriller — which includes the all-star cast of Debby Ryan, Sydney Sweeney, Alexander Ludwig, Lucy Fry, Raúl Castillo, and Alfie Allen, among others — a college student making extra money as a chauffeur picks up two women for a night of partying. However, he doesn't realise their true horrific nature until it's too late.

Hypnotic

Featuring Kate Siegel, Jason O'Mara, and Dulé Hill, Hypnotic follows a young woman who seeks the help of a renowned hypnotist. To her surprise, the intense sessions end up having deadly consequences.

Last Night in Soho

This psychological thriller revolves around a mysterious woman living in 1960s London (played Anya Taylor-Joy) and Eloise, a modern-day woman (played by Thomasin McKenzie). Eloise's strange connection with Taylor-Joy's character allows her to experience the '60s in London — and it's way more horrifying than she imagined.

Antlers

Keri Russell [9] and Jesse Plemons star in this supernatural thriller as a teacher and a sheriff who must face off against a mysterious creature when it plagues their small Oregon town. The Shape of Water director Guillermo del Toro produced this one, so you know it's got to be good.
