Meet Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi Cast

Surprise! Disney+ Is Bringing Back Some Familiar Faces For Obi-Wan Kenobi

We've got good news and bad news, Star Wars fam. The good news: the cast for Obi-Wan Kenobi has officially been announced — and it includes a few familiar faces we were doubting we'd ever see again in the Star Wars universe! The bad news: other than those returning characters, the cast announcement includes absolutely no information about who each of the cast members will be playing.

So far, we know that the six-episode Disney+ limited series will take place ten years after the end of Revenge of the Sith, following Obi-Wan Kenobi in the years following his friend and apprentice Anakin Skywalker's ultimate betrayal. Beyond that, though, it's all speculation. Keep reading to see who's joining Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in a galaxy far, far away!

Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi

McGregor's return as Obi-Wan is one of the few pieces of information that we've had confirmed about the new limited series. He's had a pretty eclectic career over the past few decades, with iconic movies like Moulin Rouge alongside plenty of smaller, indie roles. Most recently, he played a grownup Christopher Robin in Disney's 2018 Christopher Robin and chewed the scenery as madcap villain Roman Sionis in Birds of Prey.

Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader

As has long been speculated, Christensen will return to play Anakin Skywalker ten years after becoming Darth Vader. After bearing the brunt of criticisms for the polarizing Star Wars prequel trilogy, Christensen's career stalled out somewhere in the 2010s. He did, however, signal his willingness to return to the role of Anakin in two recent projects: he voiced the character in an episode of the animated The Clone Wars TV series, as well as in The Rise of Skywalker.

Moses Ingram

Ingram got her big break last year, when she costarred as Jolene in the hit Netflix miniseries The Queen's Gambit. Since then, she's caught the eye of some major Hollywood stars and projects — she recently wrapped The Tragedy of Macbeth, a Shakespeare retelling that also involves Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand, Corey Hawkins, and Queen's Gambit costar Harry Melling.

Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars

One of the big pieces of news out of this cast announcement: Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru are back! Edgerton briefly portrayed Luke's uncle (and Anakin's stepbrother) in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, and he's back in some capacity for the new miniseries. Since then, Edgerton has become a fairly prolific actor, with projects ranging from dramas like Loving to The Great Gatsby to action epics like Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars

Like onscreen husband Edgerton, Piesse is reprising her role from the prequel trilogy as the younger version of Luke's aunt Beru. Unlike many of her costars, Piesse hasn't really acted much in the years since; she's mostly appeared in short films.

Kumail Nanjiani

Fresh off of filming Marvel's Eternals, Nanjiani is joining another massive pop culture universe in a still-unknown role in Obi-Wan Kenobi. He is, of course, much more than just another blockbuster actor. You know him from TV comedies like Silicon Valley and Portlandia, as well as memorable movies like The Big Sick.

Indira Varma

Varma has spent her fair share of time in sci-fi and fantasy projects, including Torchwood, Carnival Row, and, most memorably, as Ellaria Sand on Game of Thrones. Most recently, you can see her on the legal drama For Life.

Rupert Friend

After an early career spent in British period dramas (he was Wickham in the Keira Knightley Pride and Prejudice!), Friend has settled more into roles that combine drama with action. Most notably, he played Peter Quinn for several seasons of the espionage drama Homeland.

Sung Kang

You most likely recognise Kang from his role as Han in the Fast and Furious franchise, but he's done much more than that! He's appeared in a wide variety of TV shows, most recently in a recurring role as attorney John Mak on Power.

Simone Kessell

Obi-Wan Kenobi is the latest miniseries on Kessell's resume! In the past few years, she's actually starred in quite a few limited series, including Pine Gap, The Crossing, and Of Kings and Prophets.

O'Shea Jackson, Jr.

Jackson has a particularly varied resume — and this isn't even his first sci-fi project! He's starred in history-based dramas like Straight Outta Compton and Just Mercy, as well as the monster flick Godzilla: King of the Monsters. He's currently filming the basketball drama Swagger.

Benny Safdie

Safdie is one of the more intriguing names on the Obi-Wan cast list, given that his career has mostly been focussed on directing. He's an award-winning director, most recently helming the surprise hit Uncut Gems in 2019.
