Only Murders in the Building Season 3: Trailer, Release Date

Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, and Jesse Williams Invade in the "OMITB" Season 3 Trailer

The trailer for "Only Murders in the Building" season three is here, and it's got murder, Broadway, and some musical numbers! As viewers learned at the end of season two, this season is propelled by a central mystery: Who killed Ben Glenroy? Ben, played by Paul Rudd, is part of the sprawling ensemble starring in a new play directed by Oliver Putnam (Martin Short). But when Ben drops dead opening night, Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), and Oliver bring their podcast back to solve the new mystery.

The trailer also previews Meryl Streep's role as actor Loretta, Ashley Park's part as TikTok star Kimber, and the arrival of Jesse Williams's character Tobert.

Park opened up about her role on 26 June, telling Entertainment Tonight, "I don't think I'm allowed to say yet, but what I will say, if people know my roots of where I came from, they'll be happy in terms of how I started in this business." She also assured fans that the new season will be very funny. "I think what you can expect from season three, is it's like, that cast with legends, and just the most gracious people," she added. "I laughed so much on that set as well."

Gomez is just as excited for the new season, having assured fans that it's just as "deliriously funny" as its predecessors. Gomez shared an Instagram photo with Streep on 20 April, writing alongside the image, "Well we wrapped season 3 of @onlymurdershulu - I'm not sure I have enough words to explain just how beautiful this season has been."

"It has been deliriously hilarious, challenging and for me, an absolute dream," added Gomez. "I'll post more soon. But I'll I leave it with the woman I adore, look up to and love."

The previous update Gomez had given fans on the beloved streaming series's third season was on 21 March when she posted two photos of herself wearing a wedding gown, white gloves, and combat boots while on set. Alongside the images, Gomez cryptically wrote, "I have no caption. Just a regular day at work. @onlymurdershulu."

Martin and Short also appeared in images with Gomez in the wedding gown, with Martin writing on Twitter, "Guess what just happened!" Later, paparazzi photos of the trio filming in their ensembles were released.

Gomez had shared other hints about the mystery series while filming. Back on 17 Jan., she posted a TikTok video featuring her costars Martin and Short as well as a very familiar face: none other than Streep. Returning guest stars Paul Rudd and Andrea Martin also appear in the video. "We're on set!" Gomez says. "The gang is back!" She then pans to Rudd, and finally to Streep, who sweetly asks if anyone needs anything.

Shortly after Gomez shared her video, Martin followed suit, posting a Twitter photo of himself, Streep, Rudd, Short, and Gomez together. "The filming of Season 3 of 'Only Murders in the Building' has begun!" he wrote. "A cast to dream of."

One of the other exciting updates came on 12 March, when a short teaser trailer dropped revealing a hint about Streep's character, who pops up during a table read for what is presumably for one of Oliver's productions. "Oh my God, it's me!" Streep laughs when it's her turn to speak. "Oh, I'm sorry. It's me, isn't it?"

Hulu announced that the hit series had been renewed for a third season on July 11, 2022, shortly after it became one of the most-nominated TV series at the 2022 Emmys — scoring a whopping 17 nods for its first season, including outstanding comedy series. It won two, including outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for Nathan Lane. For the 2023 Emmys, the series is nominated for 11 awards, including another nomination for Short.

In season two of the show, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel scramble to clear their names after Bunny is murdered, and it's not yet clear if they'll be suspects again in Ben's murder. Read ahead for every detail there is to know about "Only Murders in the Building" season three.

Season three seems like it will revolve about the mystery of who killed Ben Glenroy backstage at the Broadway show directed by Oliver and also starring Charles. What Ben's connection to the rest of the cast is, we don't know yet. The murder also takes place a year after the events of season two, so a lot could have happened in that time.

Of course, the crime-solving dynamic trio of Martin, Short, and Gomez will come together for another season filled with hijinks and mysteries. Thanks to the last episode, we know that Rudd has joined the cast as well. In the final moments, we also see Andrea Martin as Joy and Zoe Colletti as Lucy, so it seems likely they'll also be on hand. Williams will play a new character. Streep is also set to join the cast, though no details about her character have been revealed yet.

Additional Arconia residents and characters might reprise their roles as well, such as Jackie Hoffman as Uma Heller, Michael Cyril Creighton as feline-adoring Howard Morris, Da'Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Williams, Nathan Lane as Teddy Dimas, and James Caverly as Theo Dimas. It would also make sense for Howard's new boyfriend, Jonathan (Jason Veasey), to appear, since his character is a Broadway actor (just like Veasey is in real life).

As for other additions to the star-studded season two, including Cara Delevingne and Amy Schumer, it's unclear if they'll return.

There's no trailer for season three for viewers to preview just yet.

A short teaser for "Only Murders in the Building" season two arrived in March 2022, three months ahead of its June premiere. That was followed by a full trailer released two weeks before the premiere. Fans can probably expect a similar release pattern with the next season's trailer, which might drop a few weeks before the official release date of "Only Murders in the Building" season three.

It's not clear if season three will be the last season of "Only Murders in the Building." In a 10 Aug. interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Martin said he thinks the role will be his last, but he didn't say if he planned on stopping the show anytime soon.

The season three trailer teases that the new season will have original songs by the composers of "La La Land," "Waitress," and "Hairspray." That points to Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Sara Bareilles, and Marc Shaiman as some of the creators behind the music this season.
