Throughout Project Power [1], aspiring rapper Robin (Dominique Fishback [2]) is challenged as to whether or not she can truly rap. At one point in the film, she thoroughly demolishes a teacher with her lyrical flow with the help of a fellow classmate, played by real-life rapper Chika [3]. Unsurprisingly, there's a deeper meaning to the Chika cameo. Turns out the 23-year-old rapper is responsible for all the rap verses performed by Robin [4] as well as the song "My Power," which plays over the end credits.
As to how Chika became involved with the project, Chika revealed in the Netflix production notes [5] that "Jamie Foxx [6] saw my Instagram and saw me rapping and thought I was dope and he wasn't incorrect." I have to agree with Foxx on that one, as "My Power" will be stuck in your head for the foreseeable future — it's that good. After all, "my word is my power power" and I stand by the fact that Chika, who released her EP Industry Games in March, is one to watch. You can listen to the full song, and its infectious beat, above.
