We Can't Stop Listening to "The Introduction" From Nasty B*tches on Queens

20/10/2021 - 08:25 PM

If you miss all things '90s, please stop what you're doing right now and watch Queens [1] on ABC! The series premiered on Oct. 19 and features four women — Brianna aka Professor Sex (Eve [2]), Valeria aka Butter Pecan (Nadine Velazquez), Jill aka Da Thrill (Naturi Naughton), and Naomi aka Xplicit Lyrics (Brandy [3]) — who decide to reunite their '90s rap group 20 years (and many live-changing events) later.

If you caught the premiere, then you probably have the "Nasty Girl [4]" hook stuck in your head, but personally, "The Introduction" is the moment that I got hooked. The ladies get together with young artist Lil Muffin (Pepi Sonuga) to rehearse for their comeback and in one scene, they dust off their chops and perform a cypher that showcases who they are now as grown women. It may not be relatable, but punchlines like, "I've been around the world, 40 days, 40 nights, 40 carrots, 40 chains, Miami Vice" and "I really, really work my body sitting in my Bucatti / Chillin' while I'm killing Hibachi dripping Versace," had my shoulders moving and activated my stank face in a way that only hip-hop fans will understand. If there's more of that in future episodes, consider me a Nasty B*tches stan, but in the meantime, check out "The Introduction" above.
