Matt Lucas is set to replace Sandi Toksvig on The Great British Bake Off. The Little Britain star will join Noel Fielding to preset the 11th series in Spring. "I'm chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television," Lucas said in a statement.
And it's not just us that's excited for Lucas to be joining the show, judge Prue Leith said, "The combination of Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding! Will we stop laughing and get any filming done?"
Sandi Toksvig quit her role on The Great British Bake Off in January, where she worked as co-presenter with Noel Fielding. The pair replaced Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc when it was announced that the show was moving from BBC 1 to Channel 4 in 2016.
"When stepping down from a job it is quite common for people to say they are doing so in order to spend more time with their family. Unusually, I am departing from The Great British Bake Off so I can spend more time with my other work," the TV presenter said in a press release on her Twitter. Unsurprisingly, Sandi will leave the Bake Off tent with fond memories. "Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television." True to Sandi's nature, she joked, "as my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all-consuming show."
We can't wait to see Fielding and Lucas crack jokes in the tent. If it's anything like the video Channel 4 shared of the two, we're in for a real treat.
