Nothing Is Stopping These Funky Fresh Voters From Hitting the Polls in SNL's "Strollin'" Skit

Leave it to Saturday Night Live to tackle voter suppression via song and dance. During the Oct. 31 episode, hosted by John Mulaney, costars Kenan Thompson, Chris Redd, Ego Nwodim, and Punkie Johnson joined forces in a musical number that cleverly highlights the issue. The skit features their funky fresh characters facing obstacle after obstacle as they try to find a polling station. After learning that a handful of their local sites have closed, they dance down a highway and finally find an open station. Unfortunately, there's a three-hour line and a gun-toting man — a reference to real-life far-right groups that plan to intimidate voters on Election Day.

Not only is the sketch inspired by The Whispers' 1983 hit "Keep On Lovin' Me," but it also seems to be a nod to the Stroll to the Polls initiative led by historically Black sororities. The project encourages voters to hold their friends accountable at the polls, making sure they submit their election selections on or before Nov. 3.
