Simone Ashley Recreates Iconic Rom-Com Moments in New Video

Simone Ashley is no stranger to playing a romantic lead. Any "Bridgerton" fan knows her role as Kate Sharma in series 2 and her will-they-won't-they plot line with Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathan Bailey) was one of the best. While Ashley might be the perfect candidate for a good old British rom-com, she's not landed that prestigious rom-com film role . . . until now. Kind of.

To accompany her British Vogue cover, the fashion magazine filmed a fun video, titled "One Day with Simone Ashley". But this isn't just any normal day. Instead, the actor recreates scenes from some of the most well-known, and most-loved, rom-coms of recent years.

Using classic tropes from movies including "Four Weddings and a Funeral", "About a Boy", "Notting Hill", "Bridget Jones", and "Love Actually", Ashley takes us through a day which involves a number of recognisable scenes. There's a nod to Renée Zellweger's character with that famous waxing scene, a Julia Robert's link while script reading, and even a cameo from Martine McCutcheon for a touch of Christmas-themed magic.

While a classic rom-com is always a winner at this time of year, it's actually been trending in the style stakes, too. The 2000s English Frazzled Woman Aesthetic was making waves on TikTok in autumn, and references the iconic looks from British rom-com leads. (Think coloured tights, knitted scarves, midi skirts, and cardigans.)

While Ashley's recent looks, most notably on The Fashion Awards red carpet and the Time 100 Next Gala, are decidedly more luxe than the TikTok trend suggests, her video proves rom-coms never get old. Watch the nostalgic video above and see if you can work out which scenes are taken from which films.
