Slotherhouse Killer Sloth Movie: Trailer, Cast, Release Date

You Won't Regret Watching the Trailer For This Killer Sloth Horror Movie

There've been movies about killer sharks, bears, snakes, and crocodiles, but never in my 29 years of life could I have predicted a horror flick revolving around a murderous sloth. This bizarre concept is now a reality, and it's called — wait for it — "Slotherhouse."

Set to be released later this month, the Gravitas Ventures movie revolves around a college student named Emily Young (Lisa Ambalavanar), who adopts a pet sloth to help secure election as president of her sorority, Sigma Lambda Theta (SLTH). The seemingly innocent mammal, which they name Alpha, becomes SLTH's new mascot, but things take a turn when it starts killing students in the sorority house. That's right — Alpha isn't your average tree-hugging sloth, but rather a ruthless murderer.

The "Slotherhouse" trailer, which dropped on 2 Aug., is a wild ride from start to finish. It opens with a sorority member hearing something move in the shower behind her. Upon pulling back the curtain, she lets out a blood-curdling scream and Alpha stabs her in the face with its razor-sharp claws. A series of grisly attacks ensue, all connected back to the sloth. "It's a slotherhouse!" a character quips while standing beside one of Alpha's dishevelled victims.

Similar to "Cocaine Bear" and that Winnie the Pooh slasher, "Slotherhouse" fuses horror with absurdist humour, and, against all odds, many people are on board. "Why am I for the first time ever invested into a movie trailer and it's one with a killer sloth," one person tweeted, while another added, "Give this all the awards. I'm all in on a killer sloth!" If anything, the movie proves there are no bounds when it comes to dreaming up cinematic villains. What's next? A koala on a kill streak? A llama with poisonous spit? A sea otter with a craving for human flesh?

If your curiosity is piqued by Alpha's reign of terror, read ahead for everything you need to know about "Slotherhouse," including the trailer, cast, and release date.

An official synopsis of the movie reads as follows: "It's senior year of college for sorority sister Emily Young and for the first time ever, Sigma Lambda Theta is having elections for who will be president. Wanting to have a killer year, Emily Young realises she might just be the best option for her sorority. While beginning her campaign, she finds an adorable sloth that steals her heart and soon realises she just might steal the hearts, and votes, of her sorority sisters. But when bodies slowly begin to pile up in the Sigma Lambda Theta house, Emily and her sorority sisters realise the deaths are being caused by their new house mascot, the cuddly sloth Alpha. Will Emily and her sisters escape the house with their lives? Or is this death-sloth with three razor sharp claws too quick for them?"

In addition to Lisa Ambalavanar as Emily, "Slotherhouse" stars Sydney Craven, Olivia Rouyre, Bianca Beckles-Rose, Andrew Horton, Tiana Upcheva, Sutter Nolan, Grace Patterson, Milica Vrzić, Annamaria Serda, Rudi Rok, Tiff Stevenson, and Stefan Kapičić. It's directed by Matthew Goodhue and will be released by independent film distribution company Gravitas Ventures.

"Slotherhouse" hits cinemas on 30 Aug.

The apt tagline is: "Don't rush, die slow."
