A standalone Spider-Woman movie is happening, though there are a lot of other question marks around it. Producers Amy Pascal and Avi Arad talked to Variety on 31 May about some Sony Spider-projects coming down the pipe, including plans for another Tom Holland movie, a live-action Miles Morales film, and the upcoming "Madame Web" feature. Arad told the outlet that a standalone "Spider-Woman" film will be out "sooner than you expect." He added, "I cannot tell you yet, but it's coming."

The question remains, though, if it will be a live-action Spider-Woman movie or an animated spinoff of the Miles Morales "Spider-Verse" films. This June's "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," the second Mile Morales Spider-Man movie, introduces a lot of new Spider-people, including Issa Rae as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman. Plus, the movies also feature Gwen Stacy (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld), another alternate universe version of Spider-Woman. Back in 2018, Pascal confirmed to Vanity Fair that a spinoff featuring their characters and another spider-powered hero (Silk, aka Cindy Moon) was in the works. Notably, Silk does not seem to appear in the Spider-Verse movies so far. It's unclear if this animated spinoff is the Spider-Woman-focussed film Arad was talking about.

Steinfeld told the Variety in the same article that she definitely wants to return to the franchise, saying, "This is like my dream job, sign me up over and over again." Meanwhile Rae told USA Today of her character (who's pregnant in the film), "She's just so brave and confident in a way that I am not. She's also doing all of this while with child, and that was really compelling to me and confusing and kind of scary to portray."

And of course, Steinfeld's Gwen and Rae's Jessica will be back in the "Across the Spider-Verse" sequel, "Beyond the Spider-Verse," coming next March.
