10 Schitt's Creek Scenes That Are Pure Stevie Perfection

18/11/2020 - 11:05 PM

Stevie Budd is incredibly underrated. The sassy, sarcastic motel front-desk clerk on Schitt's Creek [1] may start out as just that, but as the show goes on, she becomes such an integral part of the Rose family, despite not being related by blood. She becomes David's best friend and Johnny's right hand at the motel [2], always firing off a perfectly delivered line that is so drenched in dry humour, you have to be careful you don't miss it. Her character also grows so much by the end, becoming this strong woman who sets aside her fears to go after a bigger and better life — and it was all handled so beautifully by Emily Hampshire. While it's incredibly tricky to pick out Stevie's best and most sarcastic moments, I did find 10 of my favourite scenes from her six seasons on the show [3]. Check them out in the gallery ahead.

Stevie and David Talk Wine (Season 1, Episode 10)

While this is often lauded as one of David's best scenes (and it totally is), it's also a brilliant one for Stevie. While David is laying out how he likes the wine and not the label, Stevie's acceptance of what he's just shared is so pure.

Stevie Goes Out (Season 2, Episode 7)

All the little moments between Stevie and David that build their friendship are honestly so cute. Stevie is all too relatable in this scene where she tells David she's looking to have her needs met by a man who is cute enough to sleep with but not stable enough to marry. I feel that deep in my soul, Stevie.

Stevie's Yearbook (Season 2, Episode 13)

I just want to talk about Stevie's high-school haircut . . . and also her trading barbs with David over their respective headshots. It's short, it's sweet, and it's Stevie and David at their best.

Stevie and David Check Out the General Store (Season 3, Episode 7)

I can't get enough of Stevie's casual sarcasm. Emily Hampshire's delivery is spot-on every single time. Here, Stevie and David are checking out the General Store while it's going out of business, and Stevie repeating the word "fungal" to annoy David is perfection.

Stevie Crashes the Date (Season 3, Episode 13)

Stevie totally crashes Patrick and David's date, but when she realises how much Patrick actually likes David, she excuses herself. What I love about this one is the way she plays the best friend and evaluates Patrick before discreetly giving David her blessing.

Stevie Calls Out David and Patrick (Season 4, Episode 2)

Stevie's never better than when she's calling out David for something, which she does for the whole six seasons. In this scene, she totally nails David and Patrick for hooking up while on the clock and plays dumb when calling out Patrick's hickey.

Stevie Picks On David (Season 4, Episode 7)

Alexis isn't the only one who loves to pick on David. Stevie takes any chance to pick on her bestie, including when Patrick brings David a cookie cake for their four-month anniversary. Stevie's look of sheer joy at giving him the cookie kills me every time.

Stevie Does Cabaret (Season 5, Episode 14)

Stevie's turn in Cabaret is such a huge moment for her character. Always sarcastic and a little bit shy, she puts it all out there on stage, showing the whole town what she can do, and there's no chance you didn't cry during Moira's pep talk.

Stevie and David Check Out the House (Season 6, Episode 13)

What's so beautiful about this scene is that it feels like a bit of an ending point for David and Stevie because they know that even though they'll still be best friends, after the wedding and moving into the new house, David will lean on Patrick more. It's a heartfelt conversation about love and good people.

A Schitt's Creek Wedding (Season 6, Episode 14)

When I say this is the best scene in the whole series, I'm not joking. Everyone is at their peak in this scene, including Stevie, who has nothing but love and admiration for her best friend and his husband.
