Watch SZA's Music Video For "Hit Different"

Summer Is Now Officially SZA Season: Watch the Striking Video For Her First Single in 3 Years

Where were you when you first heard SZA? Were you in the backseat of a friend's car, on the way to the beach with the windows rolled down? Did you stumble upon the "Drew Barrymore" music video one languid evening at home? Or had you been a fan since when she used to open concert tours, not headline them? Regardless of the how or when, you've likely been yearning for more music since the release of her widely praised debut album, Ctrl, in 2017, and you're probably also freaking out that she's finally back.

SZA unexpectedly released "Hit Different" featuring Ty Dolla Sign on Sept. 4, with a striking music video to match. She hasn't been completely silent all these years — she collaborated with Justin Timberlake on a song for the Trolls World Tour soundtrack, and then Travis Scott and The Weeknd for the Game of Thrones companion soundtrack — but for all intents and purposes, this is her first true single in three years.

In the video for the song, which is about the allure and challenges of an open relationship, SZA offers mesmerising choreography in various desolate destinations: a wrecking yard, atop bales of hay, an open field. Following the release, SZA also shared a snippet of an unreleased song, writing in her caption, "I'm in a sharing mood." We love that mood. Watch the "Hit Different" video above.
