Taylor Swift Gives a Powerful Speech About Rising Above Negativity at the BRIT Awards

11/05/2021 - 10:45 PM

Taylor Swift [1] made history as the first woman artist and the first non-British artist to receive the global icon award [2] at the 2021 BRIT Awards on Tuesday and gave a powerful speech in the process. After getting presented with the award by Game of Thrones [3] actress Maisie Williams, the 31-year-old singer took a moment to discuss the highs and lows that have come with her career over the years [4]. In addition to giving a shout-out to her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn [5], and a handful of her celebrity friends who made an appearance in her introduction video, Swift thanked those who have stuck by her. "If there's one thing that I've learned, it's that you have to look around you every day and take note of the people who have always believed in you and never stop appreciating them for it," she said. "Never take them for granted."

She then gave some words of wisdom for all the new artists trying to make it in the music industry. "I need you to hear me when I say that there is no career path that comes free of negativity. If you're being met with resistance, that probably means that you're doing something new. If you're experiencing turbulence or pressure, that probably means you're rising." She concluded her speech by encouraging those rising artists to use their platform to prove the naysayers wrong. Watch her full speech above.
