The power of believing! Ted Lasso [1] has once again scored a number of big wins at the 2022 Emmy Awards [2], which took place on 12 Sept., most notably the gong for Outstanding Comedy Series. Having also won in the same category at the 2021 Emmys, it makes the beloved Apple TV+ show one of only seven comedy series in history to have won the award in their first two years.

The show saw three other triumphs during the evening, including Jason Sudeikis winning the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Brett Goldstein hitting the top spot for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and MJ Delaney for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. It had received 20 nods for 2022 and, while the series has undoubtedly cemented its position in the hall of legendary comedy shows, some fans were dismayed that the much-loved Hannah Waddingham lost out this year [3]. Toheeb Jimoh, Juno Temple, Sarah Niles, and Nick Mohammed were all nominated for their work as well, while guest actors James Lance, Sam Richardson, and Harriet Walter also received guest actor nods for their appearances in season two.

As Sudeikis held the Emmy statues in the press room, the "Ted Lasso" cast joined in singing a rendition of "Richmond Til I Die", the football anthem associated with AFC Richmond at the centre of the show.

Last year, the series dominated [7] at the 2021 Emmy Awards, with the fictional AFC Richmond crew winning seven awards. Show creator and star Sudeikis won for his performance as the titular football coach Ted, while Waddingham won for her work as AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton, and Goldstein scored for his turn as veteran football player Roy Kent. The show also won outstanding comedy series.

Fans of the series might soon need to grapple with it coming to an end: Sudeikis told the "Today" show [8] back in 2021 that they originally imagined the show running for three seasons with a clear beginning, middle, and end, but they said the plan could change going forward. Waddington hinted that it's likely to end at season three [9], but she also said, "who knows". Will they clean up at the Emmys for the next — and possibly final — season? We'll have to wait and see.
