Watch The Green Knight Trailer Starring Dev Patel

Arthurian Legend Gets a Much-Needed Overhaul With Dev Patel's The Green Knight

When it comes to the knights of the round table, I couldn't imagine a more perfect casting for the courteous and compassionate Sir Gawain than Dev Patel, and now, I don't have to. Directed by David Lowery, A24's The Green Knight is a reimagining of the famous Arthurian legend where King Arthur's nephew Sir Gawain embarks on an epic quest to confront the titular gigantic green-skinned stranger. Like Shadow and Bone, a story centreing on a lead of colour is a welcome change in a genre that skews heavily toward the casting of white actors.

From his initial meeting with the eponymous Green Knight to his journey to finish what they started, everything about the trailer is designed to take you along on Gawain's perilous journey. From what I've seen so far, The Green Knight seems to be medieval horror at its best, which makes sense seeing as cinematographer Andrew Droz Palermo is known for his horror work. Not only is Patel perfectly cast in a story that was made to draw you in, the rest of the cast is just as talented and includes Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sean Harris, Sarita Choudhury, Barry Keoughan, Kate Dickie, Ralph Ineson, and Erin Kellyman. You can see how the journey pans out when The Green Knight hits theatres on July 30.
