Say Your Goodbyes — These 38 Shows Are All Ending in 2020

26/11/2019 - 11:30 PM

The TV landscape offers up more viewing options than ever before, but that doesn't make it any easier to say goodbye to our favourite shows [1]. Sadly, cancellations are inevitable, and the list of shows ending in 2020 [2] is already extensive. On the upside, networks and streamers alike are getting better about ending shows properly instead of leaving viewers with cliffhangers and maddeningly unresolved love triangles to deal with. That means long-running shows like Supernatural [3] and Arrow [4], as well as newer series like Netflix's Trinkets [5], all will be given a chance to go out on their own terms — and give their fans the last episode they deserve.

Whether a show's been on TV for 15 years or just one, here's hoping this list gives you plenty of time to prepare for all the grand finales coming your way in 2020.

13 Reasons Why

After three seasons of dealing with an unending stream of tragedies, Clay and his classmates will graduate in the fourth and final season of 13 Reasons Why [6]. Netflix announced in April 2019, that season four will include the disappearance of a football player, so it looks like the students of Liberty High have one more mystery to solve before they can start the next chapter of their lives.

The 100

The CW's long-running sci-fi drama The 100 is ending with season seven [7]. And as sad as that news is, it's also weirdly perfect, since the show's set to end with episode 100.

Anne with an E

Not even Anne Shirley's optimism could stop Netflix's three seasons curse. Anne with an E's third season [8], set to premiere in early 2020, will now also be its last.

Arrow

What will the Arrowverse be like without Arrow? The CW's DC universe will say goodbye to Oliver Queen [9] after eight seasons in early 2020.

Blindspot

In May, NBC announced that Blindspot will end with its upcoming fifth season [10], per The Hollywood Reporter. The series will (hopefully) solve all of its lingering mysteries when it premieres this Summer.

Bojack Horseman

Netflix's critically-acclaimed Bojack Horseman has been surprising viewers with its depth and creativity for six seasons, but the titular former '90s star is about to reach the end of his journey. The second half of the animated show's final season premieres Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 [11].

Claws

There's no easy way to say this, but the salon is closing. TNT announced in October that Claws [12] is ending with season four, according to Deadline.

Corporate

Corporate, Comedy Central's under-the-radar sitcom [13] about the dark side of working for a big business may be little watched, but it's so good that season two has a 100% fresh rating [14] on Rotten Tomatoes. With season three (the show's last) coming in 2020, now's the perfect time to see what all the fuss is about.

Criminal Minds

With 15 seasons worth of crimes solved, the Criminal Minds team have earned their big sendoff [15]. The show is set to wrap after a whopping 325 episodes.

Dark

Netflix's mysterious German series Dark is coming to a natural conclusion [16] with season three. When the news broke in June, showrunner Baran bo Odar [17] wrote on Instagram, "It is the final cycle of this great journey. We always had three season[s] in mind when we developed Dark."

Dear White People

Winchester University's students are returning from one more semester. Netflix renewed Dear White People for a fourth and final 10-episode season [18] in Oct. 2019.

Empire

Say goodbye to the Lyon family. Hip-hop family drama Empire won't return [19] for a seventh season.

Fresh Off the Boat

Fresh Off the Boat's season six renewal was met with dismay by its star Constance Wu [20], who was hoping to join a different project, but there won't be any drama when ABC announces their Fall 2020-2021 lineup. The network recently announced the long-running comedy will end [21] with season six.

Fuller House

The door to the Tanner-Fuller-Gibbler house is closing for good in 2020. When the second half of Fuller House [22] season five premieres on Netflix in 2020, the She-Wolf pack will give a final howl.

Future Man

Hulu's Future Man [23] has been quietly doing its own thing for two seasons, but time has run out for this sci-fi comedy. The eight-episode third season is still awaiting a premiere date.

GLOW

It was touch and go for a while, but Netflix has officially ordered a fourth season of its female wrestling series GLOW [24]. As sad as it is to see the series come to an end, we're just glad this smart comedy gets to go out on its own terms.

Goliath

Billy Bob Thornton [25]'s beleaguered lawyer Billy McBride is about to try his last case. Amazon's Goliath is ending [26] with season four.

The Good Place

Well, this is forking terrible news. The series finale of NBC's brilliant The Good Place will air on Jan. 30 [27].

Homeland

It feels like we've been waiting for Homeland's final season [28] forever, but Showtime finally confirmed that season eight will premiere in February. Here's hoping Carrie gets to retire before the show ends.

How to Get Away with Murder

Something tells us this finale is going to be killer. How to Get Away with Murder will end [29] with its sixth season.

Lucifer

Netflix saved Lucifer [30] from Fox's cancellation purgatory, but nothing lasts forever. The streamer has announced that the 16-episode fifth season will be the show's last.

Madam Secretary

In May, CBS gave Madam Secretary fans good news and bad news. The good? The show got a last-minute pickup for season six [31]. The bad? The 10-episode season marks the end of the series.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agent Coulson's team is preparing for their final mission. The 13-episode seventh season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. [32] is set to premiere Summer 2020 on ABC.

Modern Family

ABC's groundbreaking Modern Family [33] has spent 11 seasons chronicling the ups and downs of the extended Pritchett-Dunphy clan, but it's time to say goodbye to the family for good. The series finale is expected to air in May on ABC.

Mr. Robot

Mr. Robot's twisty final season is already underway, but it won't officially sign off until early 2020.

Power

The first half of Ghost's story is already over [34]. Still, Power fans have the second half of the show's final season to look forward to in 2020.

The Rain

Netflix's current trend of ending shows after three seasons continues with their post-apocalyptic drama The Rain [35]. The Danish show is set to return for its final season later in 2020.

The Ranch

Netflix hasn't scheduled a premiere date just yet, but it has confirmed that the second half of The Ranch's fourth season [36] will be its last. Fans still have 10 more episodes of the series to look forward to.

Schitt's Creek

Schitt's Creek is the little show that could [37] — over the course of six seasons, the comedy has earned itself a cult following and put the Pop TV channel on the map. And even though it's preparing to say goodbye with a 14-episode final season beginning in January, no one can say this show isn't ending in style.

The Spanish Princess

Usually, the end of a show is bad news, but Starz's The Spanish Princess [38] was never supposed to have a second season in the first place. The fact that this miniseries got an expanded run is something worth cheering about — even if it will really be over after its unexpected season two.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Star Wars devotees have been waiting a long time for new episodes of Star Wars: The Clone War [39]. The series ended way back in 2008, but Disney+ is reviving it for a limited run set to premiere in 2020.

Strike Back

The action-packed Strike Back [40] is one of Cinemax's signature shows, but after seven seasons, the drama is coming to an end. There's no release date yet, but expect the final season to deliver more explosive moments than a Fast and the Furious movie.

Supernatural

The road has finally run out for Sam and Dean. After 15 seasons of saving people and hunting things, Supernatural will conclude in Spring 2020 [41].

Tin Star

Amazon's UK co-production Tin Star [42] is going to have to wrap up its small town mystery fast. In March, the streamer announced the series will end after three seasons.

Trinkets

Netflix's shop-lifting drama Trinkets will sadly have a short run [43]. Shortly after the first season finale, the streamer announced the show would be back for a second and final season.
