10 of David Rose's Scenes From Schitt's Creek That We'll Never Get Over

29/10/2020 - 07:10 PM

I think pretty much every scene that David Rose is in in Schitt's Creek [1] is one of his best. The character, perfectly played by Dan Levy [2], is so charming, funny, and, at time, irritating, that each scene gives you something to remember. In its sex seasons, Schitt's Creek provided some of the best quotes, beautiful moments [3], and most iconic fashion, but I just keep coming back to David's best scenes because some of these are my favourite of the whole series. Ahead, find 10 of the scenes that I think are his best. Some are ones you'd expect, but others are the more quiet scenes that are just simply David.

David's Heart Attack (Season 1, Episode 6)

Of course I can't not include a moment where David is completely extra. He definitely has those moments throughout the series, like this one where he's SO sure he's having a heart attack, despite being practically 29. Too bad Alexis absolutely does not care.

David Likes the Wine Not the Label (Season 1, Episode 10)

I will always love the way David described pansexuality by likening it to different types of wine. It was an incredibly casual way to discuss sexuality that also made it very clear that he's into everything. Liking the wine, not the label has become synonymous with equality when it comes to love, which I think is really beautiful.

David and Moira Making Enchiladas (Season 2, Episode 2)

Listen, who really knows how to fold broken cheese? David and Moira clearly do not, and that's OK! I love this sweet bonding moment between mother and son when they're just trying to make some enchiladas but they're oh so clueless. The snappy back and forth about folding in the cheese is easily some of their best work in the whole series and it's so memorable.

David Learns to Ride a Bike (Season 2, Episode 4)

I love Alexis in this scene as much as David, but his willingness to get on the bike and be a good sport makes this one of those simple scenes that sticks with you, not for being over the top but for reinforcing this character. He's fun, he's funny, and he's willing to try.

David Tries to Write Everything Off (Season 2, Episode 6)

David got schooled in taxes after he told Johnny about all his tax write-offs. After throwing around "write-off" over and over, Johnny explodes and tells him these things aren't write-offs. Whoops, David clearly doesn't know what a write-off is and assumes it just means he doesn't have to pay for it. His adorable cluelessness is endearing, especially because he's really trying to do something with his life, and we love that for him.

Patrick Serenades David (Season 4, Episode 6)

While you might want to call this a Patrick-centric scene, I love this one for David in particular. While Patrick is serenading him with "Simply the Best," David is simply overcome with emotion (as is Moira), and he has nothing but love in his eyes. He appears so calm and in love — and completely genuine. I will always believe those tears he shed.

David Serenades Patrick (Season 4, Episode 9)

It took a lot for David to be willing to perform to Tina Turner's "Simply the Best" for Patrick. But that's exactly what he did as his olive branch after the two's tiff: sat him down in a chair at Rose Apothecary and lip-synced his heart out to their song.

David and Ted Talk (Season 4, Episode 12)

It's in this scene that David and Ted grow a little closer, and while it's a brief scene, it shows a lot of character growth on David's part. What was once a bit of a clueless, arrogant man has become more caring about the people in his life, including Ted.

David Tells Patrick He Loves Him (Season 4, Episode 12)

And this is why David's talk with Ted was one of the best scenes — because it led to this scene where David tells Patrick he loves him. It's a quietly sweet moment, but what seals it as a favourite is Patrick sarcastically telling David he'd be better with tea in his hand, to which David dramatically replies, "F*CK."

David and Patrick Get Married (Season 6, Episode 14)

If you didn't cry during David and Patrick's wedding scene then you are dead inside. David's vows for Patrick were absolutely stunning, and made me believe, yet again, in David's love of his partner.
