Little Mix [1] have had a pretty eventful year. They've lost a band member, gained two babies, and as of 11 May, they've made history at this year's BRIT Awards [2]. The band won best British group at the awards ceremony, marking them as the first-ever woman group to win the award — pretty impressive, right? The girls think so too, because their acceptance speech was a thing of beauty.

First off, they announced that as of this year, they've been together for 10 years, and they also thanked former bandmate Jesy Nelson early on in the speech. Leigh-Anne Pinnock [3] then went on to call out a number of important issues that women musicians face in the pop industry, including "white male dominance, misogyny, sexism, and lack of diversity" before adding that "we're proud of how we've stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women, and are now using our voices more than ever."

Jade Thirlwall [4] added that "the fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes. So this award isn't just for us, it's for the Spice Girls, Sugababes, AllSaints, Girls Aloud, all of the incredible, incredible female fans, this one's for you."
