Meet the Cast of We Are Lady Parts, Channel 4's New Comedic Musical Series

17/05/2021 - 05:50 PM

Channel 4's We Are Lady Parts is a six-part comedy series that follows Muslim all-women punk band Lady Parts as they go on a mission to recruit a lead guitarist into their fold. Hitting our TV screens this Thursday, 20 May, at 10 p.m., We Are Lady Parts looks to be an exciting and side-splitting series with its fresh take on Muslim women [1] explored through comedy and punk rock.

On 17 May, we got a sneak peek at the riotous escapades of Lady Parts when Channel 4 released the trailer for the show [2], which describes the band as "a confused mix of hash anthems and sour girl power". The series follows the band as they struggle to find a lead guitarist and secure a proper performing gig for the band — not to mention juggle their diverse range of day jobs and smash stereotypes along the way.

The show features an exciting cast of emerging British talent, the best known of whom is Aiysha Hart, whom you'll recognise from her role on Line of Duty [3] as the love interest of DS Steve Arnott. Keep reading to meet the cast who will be bringing this fresh new comedy to life.

Anjana Vasan as Amina Hussain

Originally from Singapore, Anjana is a singer-songwriter as well as an actress and stars on We Are Lady Parts as unlikely lead guitarist and PhD student Amina Hussain. Her theatre credits are extensive, having received critical acclaim for performances in productions including A Doll's House and Summer and Smoke. On television, Anjana has appeared on the huge Netflix hits Black Mirror and Sex Education, as well as BBC nostalgic drama Call the Midwife. [4] No stranger to comedy, the multitalented performer has also had roles on Ill Behaviour and Pls Like for the BBC and Fresh Meat for Channel 4.

Sarah Kameela Impey as Saira

Sarah has extensive theatre credits to her name, including The Tempest with The Royal Shakespeare Company. Her theatre career spans over a decade, and she appeared in her first feature film, Halcyon Heights, in 2016. It appears We Are Lady Parts will be Sarah's first major television role, starring as Saira, a former butcher now trying her luck as a singer in the band.

Juliette Motamed as Ayesha

Little is known about the actress playing Lady Parts' drummer, Ayesha. She has starred in short films Pagans and The Fence, suggesting she's a relative newcomer to the world of television acting.

Faith Omole as Bisma

Having trained at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, Faith's theatre credits are vast, including appearances in West End plays and Shakespeare productions at Shakespeare's Globe. On television, she has appeared on the Inspector Morse prequel Endeavour, and her first major television role will be as Lady Parts' bassist, Bisma. In 2019, Faith was one of the Evening Standard's "Ones to Watch" [5] in the arts industry.

Lucie Shorthouse as Momtaz

Lucie had small roles on the television shows Cleaning Up, Doctor, and Line of Duty [6] before landing a role as series regular on another British procedural drama, Bulletproof. In We Are Lady Parts, Lucie stars as band manager Momtaz, who also has a day job in a lingerie shop.

Aiysha Hart as Noor

Aiysha is possibly the best known of the main cast members, although little has yet been revealed about her role on We Are Lady Parts. She is recognisable to television audiences as DS Steve Arnott's occasional love interest DS Sam Railston on Line of Duty and also as the main role of Miriam on Sky One and AMC's A Discovery of Witches [7]. Although little is known about her role as Noor on the comedy, it will be interesting to see Aiysha in a comedic role that is different to how she is currently known to audiences.

Zaqi Ismail as Ahsan

Zaqi Ismail has appeared in both theatre and television. He is best known to UK television audiences as Boman on the Channel 4 drama Indian Summers and as Tim Lunn on Dr Who. As part of his role on Dr Who, he interpreted for a deaf crew leader, as he has extensive knowledge of sign language due to having a sister who is deaf.
