The latest comedy series from Channel 4, We Are Lady Parts [1], follows a group of women musicians that struggle to find themselves a new lead guitarist. Throughout the series, we're introduced to a number of hilarious Muslim women [2] that try to navigate their faith alongside the modern music world, particularly the punk music scene, which makes for an incredibly endearing and relatable show.

The series ends after the lead character Amina quits the band, still unable to get over her stage fright, despite the leaps and bounds that she's made since the very first episode. It's no surprise then that viewers are keen to see what comes next for Lady Parts. In a roundtable interview with the show's creator and cast, Nida Manzoor admitted that "we don't know [about series two] yet. So we'll hopefully find out soon once the show is out and, let's see." Faith Omole (who plays Bisma), also added that "we like being with each other, we like working with each other. We hang out with each other, even if we don't have to work. So I guess we'll always try to do that", which makes it sound like the possibility of a second series isn't a million miles away . . .

When asked about what they hoped viewers will take away from the show, collectively, the cast hope to inspire more diverse and inclusive comedy shows. Omole said that "the writers and the actors are here and a lot of kids are inspired and they have really big dreams, and we need the industry to open their doors to them so that it won't just be one in a million. It's tiring to see the one brown or the one Black actor who rises up out of the ashes. I love the fact that there's five of us in the show, and even more, the whole cast. So I hope that the industry, seeing the show, seeing the vast amazing cast that we have, I hope that they go, 'Yeah, it's time that we open up the doors for so many more writers and so many more women and so many more people of colour', that's what I hope."

On 22 Nov., Channel 4 announced that the series would be recommissioned for a second series. The show's creator, Nida Manzoor, said that "I feel so incredibly lucky and excited to have the opportunity to make a second series of We Are Lady Parts. I can't wait to delve back into the world of the band and go deeper into their lives. Expect more hijinks, more music, and more flights of fancy. SPARTA!"
