Spinning Out: Netflix's Ice Skating Drama Looks Intense — Here's Everything We Know

Like The Cutting Edge before it, Spinning Out focuses on a young woman who turns to pairs figure skating after an accident derails her singles career. According to the official Netflix description, "Kat seizes an opportunity to continue her career as a pair skater with a talented bad-boy partner, Justin Davis, she risks exposing a fiercely kept secret that could unravel her entire life. She splits her time between the ice rink, working as a waitress, and living with her family the nearby working-class town of Hawkley, Idaho. Kat's mother, Carol is a former figure skater who has raised Kat, and younger sister, Serena, on her own. Fuelled by a desire to prove that she can cut it as a pair skater wrong, Kat keeps her eye on the prize – facing daunting odds to realise her Olympic dream."

The first season of Spinning Out is set to kick off the new year (and the new decade) on a high note: it debuts on Netflix on Jan. 1, 2020. Since there is no specific announcement about the exact release time, it seems safe to assume it will premiere at the usual time for new Netflix seasons: 3:01 a.m. EST, 12:01 a.m. PST.

The cast is led by Kaya Scodelario as Kat, Evan Roderick as Justin, and January Jones as Carol. Other cast members include Willow Shields, Amanda Zhou, Sarah Wright Olsen, and Svetlana Efremova. Real-life Olympian Johnny Weir also has a role in the show as one of Kat and Justin's new rivals in the pairs skating world.

The first season will consist of ten episodes, each clocking in at around 45 minutes. All ten episodes will be available for streaming starting on Jan. 1.
