The Neon Pink Writing Is (Literally) on the Wall in the Love Island Villa — Here's What It All Means

02/02/2020 - 08:40 PM

Sure, the drama on Love Island [1] is a compelling and, let's be honest, obvious reason to watch the show. However, it can sometimes be hard to focus on the bizarre antics [2] of the islanders [3] when every few seconds, an offensively pink, neon sign floats into view, bearing an often inane — or insane — quote, phrase, or just a simple word with absolutely no context, splashed across a white wall.

When I watch Love Island, I genuinely find it difficult to focus on the various dumpings, recouplings [4], and friendships being formed in the face of adversity because of the distracting design decision to employ a number of signs within the walls of the house, all of them bearing a different selection of words that would make zero sense at all if you'd never watched the show.

We have all heard the old self-love adage, "What if the words you spoke appeared on your skin?" Well, the Love Island villa has taken that quote to a whole new level, with the words that you speak literally appearing on the walls around you. Keep reading to see some of our favourite neon signs throughout the Love Island villa.

"Vibey" in the Hideaway Suite

More for show rather than serving any actual purpose, is the clearly not-a-word "Vibey," which hovers over the bed in the hideaway. This entire room is decorated in the style of my 2003 self . . . if I'd had an unlimited budget and was also colour blind, that is.

"Girl Code" in the Girl's Dressing Room

In the area that can only be described as a "Female Preparation Zone" hangs a sign that reads "Girl Code." Is it referring to the unwritten (or, well, in this case, written on a wall) rule that you don't crack onto your friend's ex? Or is its location instead talking about the girl code where you help straighten the few wavy strands that your mate can't reach? Could be either, to be fair.

"Bro Code" in the Men's Dressing Room

Ah, yes. Just like girl code, the bro code is still alive and well in the Love Island villa.

Neon Signs in the Villa's Kitchen

As we journey through each episode with the Islanders, it's easy to start thinking that the words written all over the walls hold a clue to the fate of the contestants: take "Eat. Sleep. Crack On. Repeat." on the front of the kitchen counter, which just seems to be the world's shortest summary of the show. That makes sense. We're also obsessed with the glowing heart-eyes emoji and want one in our backyard.

"Steamy" Over the Bath Tub

The unmissable "Steamy" that hovers above the spa makes sense, in terms of innuendo, and we won't even comment on the "Dripping" written on the shower screen.

"Stun Hun" in the Dressing Room

By this point, I had figured that there was no rhyme or reason to any words around the villa, and I am especially referring to the words "Stun Hun" and "Extra" with the former written vertically down the wall pictured above wall and the latter across a set of drawers.

"Forking" in the Kitchen

Because spooning leads to . . .

"The Dog House" in the Living Room

Hello huge, glowing, pink arrow that points to "The Dog House."

"The Dog House" in Action

"Love" at the Entrance to the Villa

A massive heart with the word "Love" in it to greet you as you enter the villa? Bravo, yes — I get it.

"Felling You" in the Bedroom

You've got to love a double entendre.

"Lit" in the Bathroom

We'll just file this one under "random words strewn around the villa" and not think too hard about explaining it.

"Let There Be Love" and ". . . and Chill" in the Living Room

The living room is filled with neon signs — some that are sweet, and others that just fill an empty wall. "Let there be love" is a cute backdrop for many serious chats in the villa.

"What's Your Chat" on the Terrace

"What's Your Chat" makes sense here, as many of the private (and serious) chats go down on the small terrace.

"Bae-cation" Above the Sofa

Get it? Bae . . . Vacation . . . You get it.
