5 Questions We Have About Lupin After That Cliffhanger Ending

25/01/2021 - 10:40 PM

Lupin [1] is taking Netflix by storm, and for good reason. With only five episodes and plenty of drama and mystery packed in each, it's a super easy binge watch. And seeing that it ends on a huge cliffhanger, we're already craving even more. Thankfully, part two is already in the works [2], but that hasn't stopped our minds from running wild with questions and theories.

After tricking the police yet again and narrowly escaping Pellegrini's hitman, it seems like Assane is finally in the clear in the last episode. But that's when things really hit the fan. In addition to his son being kidnapped by Pellegrini's hitman, Assane comes face-to-face with detective Youssef Guedira, who has been on his trail the whole season. Will Youssef prove to be an ally or an adversary? Only time will tell. Read ahead as we break down even more questions about that finale.

What Will Happen to Assane's Son?

The last we see of Raoul, he's being dragged into a car by Pellegrini's hitman. It's unclear where he's being taken, but it certainly can't be good. Something tells us Pellegrini's hitman is planning on using Assane's son as a hostage to lure him out into the public eye, much like Assane used Commissioner Dumont for information about his father.

Will Assane and Youssef Team Up?

After becoming engrossed in Assane's case and the similarities between him and Arsène Lupin, Youssef decides to go off on his own and find Assane in the final episode. However, when he comes face-to-face with Assane, he doesn't address him by his actual name. Instead, he calls him Lupin. Perhaps Youssef's fascination with the Lupin books and Assane's case will convince him team up with Assane as a double agent.

Will Pellegrini Finally Be Brought to Justice?

Pellegrini needs to reprimanded for his actions in part two. Although Assane comes close to defeating him several times during season one, he always manages to slip out of his reach by using his power and countless connections. After learning more about Assane's history with Pellegrini's daughter Juliette, it would certainly be interesting to see her go against her father and help Assane bring him to justice.

Whose Side Is Juliette On Anyways?

Speaking of Juliette, where exactly are her loyalties? We're not gonna lie, the revelation that she previously had an affair with Assane really threw us for a loop. Has she secretly been working with Assane this whole time to bring her father down? Or, on the flip side, did ending their affair make her resent Assane so much that she decided to team up with her father to bring him down? The answer could shape up to be one of the biggest twists of part two.

What Wild Situations Will Assane Get Himself Into Next?

One of the highlights of season one was watching Assane continuously outwit all of his adversaries as he personifies Arsène Lupin, and I am eager to see how the writers top themselves in part two [4]. Since Maurice Leblanc has countless stories to draw inspiration from, I don't think the writers will have any trouble coming up with more ways to pay homage to the fictional gentleman thief.
