Pidge, Father Stack's Bird

Sadly, the class pet Pidge wasn't long for this world as it's their death that's the key for Miles to return home to Flora. Although we don't know how it's done, it's quite macabre how Miles leaves Pidge for Father Stack to discover on the pulpit. Later, Miles apologises for the bird's death but instead of being remorseful, he wishes he had done worse.

Charlotte and Dominic Wingrave, Miles and Flora's Parents

The catalyst for Dani and Rebecca's hirings at Bly Manor are the deaths of the Wingrave parents [6]. After Dominic discovers that Charlotte and his brother Henry are having an affair, he decides that in order to save their marriage, they should relive their honeymoon. Dominic and Charlotte then travel to India where they die in a terrible accident. We never learn the exact nature of this accident but do see that Henry is the one that learns of the news and has to tell the children.

Peter Quint, Henry's Former Valet

After learning why Peter swindles Henry out of thousands of pounds, we start to feel some sympathy for the otherwise awful former valet. While Peter is "tucked away" in a memory, we learn that his mother plans on blackmailing him and that he didn't have a great childhood. He tells this version of his mother that she's the reason he dies at the hands of the Lady in the Lake on the night he is to start planning his and Rebecca's escape. He, essentially, is in the wrong place at the wrong time and is either suffocated or has his neck broken before the Lady takes his body back to the lake.

Rebecca Jessel, Miles and Flora's Original Governess

Rebecca's death is perhaps the saddest of them all, as she doesn't see it coming and it's certainly not her choice. Everyone is led to believe she dies by suicide by drowning due to the supposed betrayal of Peter Quint. In actuality, Peter reveals his ghost to Rebecca and in the weeks leading up to her death, periodically takes control of her body so they can be together in her memories.

Peter tells Rebecca that in order to be together forever, she has to fully let his ghost into her body. While she believes they'll equally be in control, it's Peter that takes complete and total control. As Rebecca, Peter walks into the water and drowns her body so that their ghosts can be together. By the time Rebecca realises what's happening, it's too late and she is dead.

Edmund O'Mara, Dani Clayton's Fiancé

Every now and again, we'll get a glimpse of a dark figure with glowing glasses near Dani. For the most part, they're relegated to reflections in mirrors and windows. After Flora discovers a pair of broken glasses among Dani's belongings, we learn that this dark figure is the ghost of Dani's fiancé Edmund [7].

Edmund and Dani are best friends growing up and childhood sweethearts. The two are set to get married when Dani has second thoughts, likely due to the self-discovery of her attraction to women. The pair fight as she breaks things off and just as Edmund gets out of the car, he's hit by a truck and later dies at the hospital. Dani is then plagued with the guilt of his death and the secret that they were actually no longer together when he died.

Margaret Sharma, Owen Sharma's Mother

Owen initially takes the position as cook at Bly Manor in order to stay close to home and take care of his ailing mother. As the series progresses, we learn the extent of her dementia and how she frequently confuses Owen with other family members. Owen ends up staying at Bly Manor a couple of nights in order to make sure Dani, Flora, Miles, and Hannah feel safe from Peter Quint — who everyone believes has come back to find Rebecca. During his stay, he gets a phone call from his neighbour who'd gone to check on his mother for him and learns that she has died from her condition.

Hannah Grose, Bly Manor's Housekeeper

If it wasn't for Peter's untimely death at the hands of the Lady in the Lake, Hannah likely would've made it out of The Haunting of Bly Manor alive and hopefully could've ended up with Owen. Unfortunately, as a ghost, Peter is threatened by Hannah's interference in Miles and Flora's lives and takes control of Miles's body without his knowing. As Miles, Peter pushes Hannah down a well right before the group meets Dani for the first time. This means that Hannah is dead the entire time we see her and explains why she doesn't eat or drink.

Viola Lloyd, the Lady in the Lake

Viola Lloyd is the original lady of Bly Manor [8]. During the 1600s, Viola marries a man named Arthur Lloyd in order to keep control of her family's home. They fall in love and have a daughter before Viola falls ill with what her husband and sister, Perdita, think is the plague. A doctor confirms that it's not the plague but Viola becomes sicker and sicker until her sister smothers her to death, not out of mercy, but out of jealousy and because she's had enough.

When Viola's husband and daughter throw her "cursed" trunk full of clothes into the lake, she eventually begins her transformation into the Lady in the Lake. As the Lady, Viola takes the lives of many, including the doll face ghost, as she searches for her lost daughter until she no longer resembles herself or remembers why she walks the halls of Bly Manor.

Perdita Willoughby, Viola Lloyd's Sister

Perdita is the faceless ghost that Flora tells to be quiet while playing in the attic. Much like her sister, she's forgotten who she was or that she even had a sister once upon a time. Perdita is initially smitten with Arthur Lloyd, who eventually marries her sister. After murdering Viola, Perdita essentially steps into her life, although Viola's daughter doesn't accept her as her mother and Bly Manor begins to fall to ruin. In the hopes of saving the house, and fitting herself in fine silks, Perdita opens Viola's dress trunk. Arthur originally promises Viola that no one will open it until their daughter comes of age, so when Perdita is the one Viola's ghost sees, she strangles her to death.

Lord Henry Wingrave, Miles and Flora's Uncle

Technically he doesn't stay dead but Henry is a ghost for a moment and converses with Hannah so we're counting him on this list. Henry has an ominous feeling and races to Bly Manor in the hopes that he'll be able to save Miles and Flora like he wasn't able to save Charlotte and Dominic. He barely manages to clear his car when the Lady in the Lake grabs him by the neck and chokes him. Hovering between life and death, Henry's "ghost" is given a message from Hannah while Owen does his best to resuscitate him. Owen is successful and Henry is the only person on this list that gets a truly happy ending, living to a ripe old age while being able to see Flora get married.

Dani Clayton, Miles and Flora's Second Au Pair

Dani just wants to make a difference in Miles and Flora's lives. As their au pair, she tries to keep them safe and gives them her attention and love. It's this love that ultimately results in her death. The Lady in the Lake discovers Flora, thinking she's her daughter, and begins taking her to the lake so that they can be together. Dani calls out a saying that not only Viola shares with her own daughter — "It's you. It's me. It's us." — but is the phrase needed to allow a ghost permission to enter a person's body on Bly Manor. With Viola deep inside of Dani's mind and body, Flora is saved and everyone leaves Bly Manor.

Dani knows that one day the Lady will one day take control but until then, she's able to live a happy life with her love, Jamie [9]. It isn't until years after the incidents at Bly Manor that the Lady takes over and Dani becomes the Lady in the Lake. Unlike the previous Lady, Dani isn't vengeful and no one is ever killed again.
