Will There Be an Enola Holmes Sequel?

Will Netflix's Enola Holmes Get a Sequel? The Guessing Game Is Afoot

Netflix's Enola Holmes officially dropped on Sept. 23, delivering a fun family-friendly adventure centreed on the keen young detective Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown). The film is based on author Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes book collection, specifically the 2006 debut tome, The Case of the Missing Marquess. Both the movie and the novel follow Enola's exploits as she investigates the disappearance of her mother, Eudoria, while helping a runaway nobleman named Viscount Tewksbury escape looming perils. The end of the film adaptation certainly leaves room for a sequel. It seems as though Enola is just at the start of her true journey, and with five other works in Springer's Enola-centric repertoire, there's plenty of material to pull from.

If Enola Holmes does get a sequel, it'd likely be based on the second book in the series, The Case of the Left-Handed Lady. The novel details Enola's quest to find a missing young woman named Lady Cecily while evading Sherlock. Its earliest premiere date would probably be sometime in 2022, seeing as production schedules are still fickle due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Brown is also reportedly preparing to start filming again for Stranger Things season four and will be working on that for an undisclosed amount of time. There's even more uncertainty surrounding the future of Enola Holmes, bearing in mind that Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is suing Netflix and the movie's creative team over copyright and trademark issues. So can we expect a follow-up film? We'll just have to wait for Netflix to send us clues — or, you know, simply make an official announcement.
