Winter Love Island has named its 2020 winners — Paige Turley and Finn Tapp [1] — who walked away £50,000 richer and with the love of their lives. While many are happy with the pair tripping, tumbling, and falling in love, Twitter is demanding justice for second place winners Siânnise Fudge and Luke Trotman [2].
Host Laura Whitmore started off the episode on a respectful note, honouring previous Love Island presenter Caroline Flack [3]. "Caroline loved Love Island. She loved love. And that's why tonight's final is dedicated to her," said Whitmore. The heartfelt video tribute featured a montage of Flack's famous walk into the Love Island villas over the years, her time with contestants, hosting After Sun, and her infectious, glowing laughter.
The series finale then shifted to the four remaining couples — Paige Turley and Finley Tapp, Siânnise Fudge and Luke Trotman, Natalia Zoppa and Luke Mabbott, and Jess Gale and Ched Uzor — getting dressed up, learning to tango, and then confessing their love to each other in an intimate speech. Paige Turley and Finley Tapp, and Siânnise Fudge and Luke Trotman were the only couples who said "I love you" to each other during their speeches — securing their spots as the top two couples of Winter Love Island.
Twitter was quick to comment on Siânnise Fudge and Luke Trotman being robbed of the winning spot. Fans were so passionate that they decided to honour Fudge by calling her by her first name, "She started as Shaun Knees...", tweeted journalist Nola Marianna Ojomu. "And now she's leaving as Siânnise Fudge, first of her name, girlfriend of Luke T, the people's princess, top villa skanker, defender of the Lukes, queen of sass and a fave of the Love Island 2020".
The Lukes — Luke Trotman and Luke Mabbott — were also getting major love on Twitter. Fans are calling "Luke Squared" the real winners of Winter Love Island for their loving and supportive bromance.
