Take a Tour of Joe Goldberg's London Life with "You" Season 4's Filming Location

13/03/2023 - 04:35 PM

Hello . . . You. He's back! But this time, Joe Goldberg has gone on a little European holiday for "You" season 4. While we've seen him work in a book shop in New York, a lifestyle store in Los Angeles, and a library in the fictitious Californian suburb of Madre Libra, for the fourth instalment of the hit Netflix show, he's made his way to London as a university professor, who operates under the name Jonathan Moore. And so the web begins to tangle . . .

The first half of the new series premiered on 9 Feb., with the second half following a month later, and although it's been met with mixed reviews [1] and, typically, a number of deaths [2] from the new cast [3], the filming locations have been keeping us entertained. While some of the distances between them have been mocked online (have you tried walking from Kensington to Shoreditch in 10 mins?), the London-based leg of Joe's new chapter is full of grand country estates, chic townhouses, and boujee members clubs that are real places in and around the capital.

While Joe works in a London-based university in the upper class Kensington area of London, there are glimpses of St. Pancras International Station, Chiswick Gardens, and even Fabric nightclub throughout the episodes. Read ahead for the lowdown on the "You" season 4 [4] locations, just in case you want to visit Joe's haunts.

“You” Season 4 Locations: Darcy College Campus

Royal Holloway, University of London serves as the impressive exterior location for the university Goldberg lectures in. Although it's not actually in central London, sorry to disappoint. The uni can actually be found in Egham, Surrey and is a 40-minute train journey from the captial. Students had caught sightings of Badgley filming in spring 2022, and posted sneak peaks onto TikTok [5] at the time. (Some might say the stalker became the stalked on social media!) The Founders Building, at the heart of the uni, is the exact backdrop in the Netflix show and was opened by Queen Victoria in 1886. It includes two quads, one of which houses a statue of the monarch. While the location is used as the fictional Darcy College in "You", the grounds have been used in "Downton Abbey", "Avengers: Age of Ultron", and "The Split".

“You” Season 4 Locations: St. Pancras International Station

While Joe is seemingly following Marienne, he winds up hiding behind a paper at St.Pancras International station when travellers can take the Eurostar from London to Paris. It won't surprise you to find out there have been a whole host of films choosing to shoot here. From Harry Potter [6] to "Mission Impossible" with "Bridget Jones's Diary" amongst them, it's a popular TV and film location thanks to the brick arches and aesthetically pleasing architecture.

“You” Season 4 Locations: Darcy College Library

While Royal Holloway acts as the location for Darcy College, the library is actually a few miles away back in the centre of London. Lincoln's Inn, situated at 11 New Square, is the backdrop for conversations between Joe and his students. Lincoln's Inn is a society for Barristers made up of a number of historic buildings, a short walk from Holborn station, and is used by some of the world's most prestigious judges and lawyers. The library was first mentioned in 1471, but its current iteration was finished in 1845 and contains a large number of rare books. We wonder if there's a glass box in the basement?

“You” Season 4 Locations: Clotho Gallery

In episode 2, much of the dramatic action takes place at the Clotho Gallery. Eagerly googling where this might be? You won't have much luck as the fictional gallery is actually 1 Old Billingsgate Walk. Situated on the North bank of the River Thames, the Victorian Grade II listed building offers three event spaces and a terrace overlooking London landmarks including Tower Bridge and The Shard. Until 1982, it housed a world-famous fish market. In "You", it's the location of Simon Soo's (Aidan Cheng) art show, put on by Kate, with action taking place both inside and on the terrace.

“You” Season 4 Locations: Lady Phoebe’s Flat

As we're introduced to the wealthy Lady Phoebe, it's not long before we see the inside of her abode. And it's not too shabby. The actual filming location? The Four Seasons Hotel at Ten Trinity Square. Overlooking the Tower of London, a night's stay in one of the suites can set you back a whopping £1,600. The site was first populated by the Romans more than 2000 years ago and, during a six year renovation starting in 2010, a number of Roman archaeological finds were discovered, including cellars and cesspits, which were all donated to museums. For the purposes of "You", it's the perfect flat for a rich socialite.

“You” Season 4 Locations: Hampsbridge House

Episodes 4 and 5 are all based out of London at the made-up Hampsbridge House, which also serves as the location for the part 1 cliffhanger. The country getaway for the London rich kids is actually filmed at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire, around an hour's journey outside of the capital. Built by Sir Robert Lytton in 1490, the family have continued to reside in the House ever since. The popular location is the site of concerts and outdoor cinemas in the summer, while "The Crown" has been filmed there, as well as the video for Little Mix's "Woman Like Me". We have one warning that you'll soon understand: no historic buildings were harmed in the filming of "You".
